You do not need the mounts. I have run 3+ degrees on 15 inch wheels with no major issues. 17's would make it worse. He probably has about 2-2.5 with that height. I always recommend about 1 inch above what TEIN suggests for that setup. Looks nice but still looks lower then I would have thought for 1 inch above the TEIN specs.
Edit: Thats probably the 17's fooling me a bit.
