Alternator replacement is one of those seemingly simply jobs that can be a real PITA. I've done this now many times on B13's and B14's. There's no need to remove any hose or raise the motor. Having said that though, the more space you can create around the alternator the easier the job will be. It may well be worth it to you to follow the advice above, in order make the replacement a little easier, if you don't mind the extra steps involved.
