If you can make it sound better by pushing the clutch in and sidestepping it so it snaps back up hard, it could just be the TOB rubbing a little bit on the fingers of the Pressure plate.
Greasing the TOB shaft and fork and the connecting shaft that pivots through the case to the outside lever is essential. It can make things very difficult if this is not done.
