Like brokeser posted, the culprit seems to be a bit of coilbind at compression from the rear springs. I tie-wrapped my springs to the seats on the struts to no avail. Still clunked. You can either grab some rubber sping insulator stuff (the sprial-wrap rubber stuff some OEM's use to isolate the spring) or some tubing that matches the O.D. of the coil wire and slide it up the coil a few winds.

That should solve it. It wasn't the nut that held the hat onto the strut shaft either. I stacked a few washers thinking I ran out of thread, and it still clunked. I grabbed my industrial-force Ingersoll-Rand impact and cranked up my air pressure to 120 psi and it still clunked (not to mentioned that it almost stripped the threads).
