I am about to report on my weekend at the convention of 2005 in Austin, Texas... I no way will this be a negative post nor will it be a means to vent frustrations on a person and/or people. Without further ado, read ahead...
I arrived behind the Cali Crew in their Malibutay (Edited because someone thought my terminology was offensive)... After suffering all day laughing my ass off at the stupid crap they did to that poor car, it was time for me to get to my room and crash... To give you some hints, a V6 with traction control on actually makes the tires chirp at every god forbidden traffic light... You can actually get a Malibu to do a 180* spin with just dirt for traction... You can pull the rear bracing off the back of the passenger seat if you yank hard enough.... you can get 4 guys to stand on the car itself and no dent it... You can hit a construction cone and no damage the paint on the Malibu but really piss off a truck driver behind you when the remaining pieces start hitting his truck.... You can't sleep for sh*t in the back seat because the moon roof has no shading except for a pair of a factory worker's panty hose for a sun screen....
Anyways, I arrived at the hotel and bunked up the cali crew in my room since they had forgotten to make reservations prior for the Manor House Inn... After crashing and waking up the following morning we headed out to the track to find new faces, old faces, new ideas, old ideas, old farts, young farts, etc.... I had been itching to get my turbo beast on the track for quite some time to dial in the Boost controller, so I opted to have Greg Perry (a WONDERFUL guy to talk with and get to know if you havent already) drive my beast on the track for me... It was amazingly quick and was set up well for the track for not having any bars whatsoever on the suspension system... After this I decided to head back to the Embassy where I arrived and went straight to bed having a headache from lack of sleep...
I shall stop my report now because Part 2 will explain the bad luck I had for the second half of my trip...
Thanks for the kind words. I am soooooo sorry your B14 had the oil system troubles after the track day. James Vick caught me literally on my way to the airport and told me about your problems. I felt terrible, but had to get to the airport on time to catch my flight.
Otherwise, I would have stopped and said 'bye' and make sure you and your car were taken care of. I knew James would take care of things some how, some way.
Your car was a hoot on track, I can tell you that. It seemed to be just fine when you followed me over to Austin in the pimp Solara rental. That's why I had no clue about the oil troubles until I was in the car on my way to the airport.
Have faith...it is something that can be fixed and good as new. Soon.

His B14 apparently popped an oil pump spring of some sorts, IIRC. No oil pressure. James Vick got the car back to Dallas and his shop. That's the last I heard.

i will have you know the traction control was OFF the whole trip, dammit.
it was retarded though, the thing had the power to spin them all the way through first gear, but below 10mph, the ECU wouldnt allow anything above 3000-4000 rpm and would shut the throttle body, lameness.
James V and I stayed behind sunday morning to trouble shoot his problem. I was hoping it was a simple clogged oil line to the senders...well after looking at those, we dropped the pan (oil is good for skin and hair ) and found this little valve like item...were guessing its the bypass valve. After that, there wasnt much more we could do but clean up everything and head to the BBQ.
Glad James got the car to dallas, im sure its in good hands.
BTW: thanks to Big John, Danny, Travis, and James for staying back and helping out.
I'm finally off work friday and can dive into it. It shouldn't take to long to find out what the deal is. I strained the oil through a filter at work yesterday and didn't find anything wierd in it. I've just never seen that happen before. I'll post tonite or tomorow when I get a look. Thanks for the help Pat and Marla and a big thanks to Peter for stayin late on monday. Ya'll be safe.

Ah, the legend of Cali boys car destruction continues.
Sorry to hear about your car Erich, but if theres one thing I've learned here, its that this is one hell of a group and will take care of you. I don't know if you where at the 03 convention but if you where, you'd know exactly what im talking about. The SE-R crowd is one of the most kind and generous groups of people I've ever known. I'm sure everything will work out.
He propbally blew a rod in the motor just like everyone does at the track on Convention track day. I remember when it happened to Larry McLeod in 2001.
What was Larry Weeks.

Pretty White... I wouldnt start spewing and assuming things if I were you... I said I would explain what happened... and no this did not happen on the track and 2 I did not throw a rod through the block...
well folks... The cat is out of the bag so I shall not post my Report Number 2 but post the tragic events here...
I wish to give a huge group hug and big thanks to Big John, Travis, Danny, Pat and Marla, James Vick and a huge thank you to Terry Vincent for going out of his way to give me a ride back in his King Bitch Towing vehicle with the Popsicle in tow... (I want a Titan now dammit) and all those faces I might have forgotten during my time of stressing...
The event goes like this... Early in the day on Saturday I gave a ride to someone (your name slips my mind at the moment and I apologize)... She hauled ass around the block, no detonation, no pinging, no signs of any problems whatsoever... Just flat out boost to 11psi roasting the tires through 4th gear... I came back to the hotel and let the turbo timer kick on for a good 4 minutes... Left the car as it was and headed back to my room to pack up my things and talk to my fiancee who was still back in Phoenix to let her know that I was heading home that evening... Checked out of my room, headed to my car, started it up, let it idle, checked my phone, looked up and the dreaded red oil light was on... I immediately looked at my oil pressure gauge (thankfully I hooked this back up for my drive out there)... and Noticed it was dead on 0psi... I was like WTF!! This is not happening to me right now... I went into panic mode as anyone else would... If you recall I had already checked out of my room and the bitch at the front desk would not let me have my room back for the fu*king night I had already paid for but did not use... I had to find some way to get someone to help me... Pretty soon phones were going off left and right and I had a huge drunken crowd of SR20 monkeys peering over my car... Since everyone was too drunk to work on it, I decided to stay another night and get sh*tfaced myself since I nor the car was going anywhere... Danny offered up his room for free for me to crash that night... We went out to the bars and met up with a group of monkeys whom know who you are... I had a blast hanging out and bullsh*tting with you guys... Except Pat decided he didnt like his drink anymore and tipped it on the table and made my pants look like I pissed in them... (Its all good brother)...
Anyhow, I just got a message from James that he was able to tear into it this afternoon and everything looks immaculate... We just need to figure out how the hell the oil pump went with the Pope to Lala land... If any of you know me well, I do not trust my car to just anyone... Since you all gave me your words that the car would be in good hands with James, I had no problem leaving her with him to take care of it... Thanks again to all of you that stayed and helped... Had I been on the road when this happened... I would have been royally fu*ked... I will always return the favor to all of you... This community is just amazing... Thank you for having me go home with wonderful memories instead of dwelling on this... Believe me, more good memories than this bad one...
Now post those pics of my slut so I can have a background on my computer...
Thank you again to all... I cannot say it enough...

You know we've got your back man... I wish that there was more that we could have done to help you. Monica had to be at work Monday at 7:30am, and my little girl had school as well. If not, I would have stayed behind to help. Charles and I came up with 120.00 to pitch in for the dolly and whatnot.. I hope it helped.
I feel horrible about the oil pump.. I built Erich's motor about 2 years ago.. he had a ton of issues with the car, which had been built by some monkeys at another shop (I won't say any names). We slowly got the car back into working order, as there were a ton of issues to address. We put a SR20VE oil pump on the motor.. wanting a little more protection from wear.. since this was going to be a pretty big HP motor. The car made some good power, and has faithfully carted Erich around the country from here, to AZ, up to Chicago.. I just don't understand how this could have happened. Even though it's not something that I did wrong in assembly.. I still feel bad about it. Erich has had some bad luck.. and I feel for him.
For those who don't know what happened.. the oil pump has a spring loaded relief valve to regulate pressure. It's held in place by a big, 17mm or 19mm bolt.. I can't remember off hand. Anyway, this thing is assembled at Nissan, and doesn't require any assembly upon arrival. So, I would never think to check it or modify it. The bolt apparently backed out while the engine was running.. allowing the spring and valve to fly out.. This means that the oil pressure dropped to 0, because it was leaking out from the hole. Luckily, Erich caught it in time, so no engine damage occured.
I have never seen this happen before.. and it's upsetting because I spent a lot of time on that car. I'm sorry this happened to you Erich.. you didn't deserve that at all. I know one thing for sure.. all of my oil pumps will have loctite on that bolt from now on!
When I got home I noticed I had a outer CV boot split on the driver side on the way home making a HUGE mess under the car.... Brakes and a CV boot - I'll take that over an oil pump!

The wierd part about this whole thing, is that we only found the valve in the pan when we dropped it, no spring, no ball, no huge bolt...like it just shot out of the other end. Im curious to see what James finds...hope he post some pics...its just wierd.
