Matt - I couldn't agree with you more. Being the "current" SERCA president as well as one of the founding fathers (?) I'd agree with you that SERCA is and has been dead. As a matter of fact, I'd really say that it never quite got off the ground like we had hoped and envisioned when we first started in 1999. This forum (as much as I had intially been resistant to forums of any sort) is absolutely the largest potential membership base.
And yes, allowing other cars is good. Including the "new" SE-R's. Hell, if a Mustang or Civic owner wants to be part of it, let them! I know, I know, the horrors. SoCal does real well with non-SE-Rs and even non-Nissans joining. They are similar to BMWCCA (which, btw is a very good model and what I wanted to see SERCA as all along) As an example of getting along with other makes/models, the guys here in the northeast have been running at events held by the Corvair club and the two groups get along GREAT!
Matt, you've got my backing no matter what the naysayers have to say. I've been there and tried to make it work and know how difficult it really is. Let the people who are doubting you try it for themselves and see how difficult it is... good luck to you

Monthly would be overly optimistic at the beginning, even quarterly (like it's supposed to be) would probably not happen. If we started off with a goal of 2 per year to start, I think that would be far more realistic.

yeah, there are a LOT more BMW's on the road than there are SE-R's, and therefore more members and a larger following, meaning more money for a magazine. Twice a year does sound like a nice idea.
I really think if we want to revive SERCA we need to not only accept membership applications from Altima SE-R drivers and QR SE-R drivers, but we also need to promote SERCA on their forums. SERCA needs the people, and could certainly benefit from the (assumed) deeper wallets of the Altima owners.

I bet David over at b15forums is more then willing to help with all this. I have no idea if the new Altima SE-R even has a forum but the people over at Nissan Fourms are sure to chip in with some help I would think.

www.nissanclub.com is the old www.altimas.net which has an Altima SE-R section. There are very few enthusiasts over there, mostly body kits and neons and that kind of thing. The Altima isn't exactly a "sporty" vehicle (pre se-r, and pre 02 especially).

Being I currently own both a B14 SE-R and a B15 SE-R Spec V, I will comment on this topic. A few weeks back Matt and I spoke about this, and what I got from him was that My B15 was as welcome as my B14. Who really cares what motor is in the car. Yes, there are alot of ricers driving the newer car, well because, they are a nicer, newer car to build a "show car" out of than a 10+ year old car.
Some of you love to hate the spec so much that you overlook the + aspects of it, its everything I wish my B14 could be, new, 6 speed, killer LSD, and has a great factory suspension(compared to the stock B14 suspension)
After seeing travis DE-stroke the QR to make it a QSR23, it almost makes me want to do it. I know I wont, im like old faithful, I go with what I know and that is why I have another B14(my 3rd B14)
I say who cares what motor/chassis/driver ownes whatever car, settle it at the convention, at the tracks, and you might realize that some of the B15 owners are like me and actually cool and down to earth, but just want to be accepted.
On a side note, as crazy as it sounds, back with my other b14's(my current one doesnt run) I would get challenges daily on the street. With my B15, I have had it since march and I have not been challenged to a street race. Im 100% ok with that, as I dont race like I use to. My point is maybe alot of people are overlooking it.

Exactly my point. Not a lot of them would even consider joining. But if they did want to join we should welcome them. The Altima SE-R people who are serious about performance would add some nice diversity. It is a Nissan, it's got a great suspension and engine. It's a cool car for a 4 door family sedan. I think it would be great to see a Altima SE-R tearing it up at the convention with the other 4cyls.

I agree wholeheartedly... there should be nothing stopping them from joining. Just like there should be nothing stopping any other car... a Honda, Ford, whatever. We shouldn't be so elitist like we're driving Porsches or something and there are so many out there that we can AFFORD to be elitist.
As for seeing one at the convention... I'd love to see that as well. Too bad it's not as easy as the trick of buying the CB radio at Radio Shack on Friday, using it for a trip, and then returning it on Monday If it were only that easy with a car!
