Helmet ratings for this year?

I was just wondering if anyone knows if a M95 helmet will be approved for the track event this year. I know it's technically expired (10 years I think?), but I was just wondering how strict that rule will be.

I plan on buying a new SA2005 helmet sometime soon, but I'd rather not be forced to do it before the convention just because of my budget. But I will if I need one. Just curious.

Since PDA is running the event, here are their rules:

Minimum requirements to participate in a PDA driving event:
* Be at least 18 years old
* Have a "SNELL SA-2000" or "M" rated helmet
* Wear long sleeve shirt & long pants while driving
* Have properly working seat belts on both driver and passenger side
* ALL convertibles MUST have an approved roll bar (main hoop should be made of .120 wall thick steel)
* Vehicle must pass tech inspection by your mechanic or our staff and Tech Sheets must be signed by both driver and inspector
* All vehicle safety related functions must be in proper working order
* Exhaust must not exceed 90 DB (except at Pocono!)
* Street tires must have no less than 5/32" tread or race tires.

I suppose that doesn't really answer the question, but Joe D or someone else will have to chime in here.

Aw crap I think mine is a 95 also

It looks like I can get the 2000 version of mine for $100 or the 2005 for $150. Tough choice...

I use my Scorpion full face......

If you look around, Snell rated helmets are not that expensive.

Well Summit Racing has some GForce SA2005 helmets pretty cheap. I'll probably order one of those.

Strange that they allow "M", but not SA95.

What about an airbag car that has had its airbags removed? Does it flunk due to this rule?

It may just be how it is worded. We went over this at a pda meeting, 10 years is 10 years weather it is SA or M rated. If you were allowed to use any M helmet then you can show up with a pre 1960 helmet with that great styrofoam used to for packing to protect your head, I DON"T THINK SO.

Torry, check out www.discoveryparts.com. They are local. That is where I got my SA2000 GForce Hybrid.

OK you fruity asses here's the final word on the helmet deal. I just got an e-mail from the big man at PDA.

Here it is:
"You don't need no stinking helmets.

Snell has extended the '95 rated helmet to Sept. 2006, which makes no sense.
NASA will not allow any "M" helmets at their events as has SCCA.
PDA will adopt the same position as is outlined in the insurance regs. We will strongly encourage people to up date their '95 helmets to the new 2005 models before Sept. It's all about the safety and getting the best protection.
Joe"

So basically your 95 helmets are good until sept. But he is also saying "M" helmets will not be allowed after sept. also.

Now leave me alone.
