Free Day Option: Carlisle Performance and Style Carshow

http://www.carlisleperformanceandstyle.com/

Being that Saturday is a free day, and most of us in the Northeast have been to NYC (or live there), this provides an excellent oppurtunity to get out of the area for the day.

The show is a huge event every year, and draws big crowds as well. In the past there have been an 40/60 ratio of nice cars vs show/rice cars, but that is something to be expected. To help combat that, this years event is aimed at the 'higher end' style, which will feature some luxery cars and or well done tuner style cars.

The show is back at the Carlisle Fairgrounds this year as well, so not only is mass parking acceptable, but you can always find those paid parking spots up close

It's always a fun time, and great to go with friends.

Carlisle Performance & Style, scheduled for May 5-7 2006, is an event designed to introduce the latest in customization, tuning and in-car entertainment trends to enthusiasts of all ages. See show quality compacts, customized SUVs and modified high-end luxury rides.

The latest trend in the automotive hobby industry is modifying stock luxury sedans (like a Mercedes CL55) or high-end SUVs (maybe a Lincoln Navigator, a Range Rover or a Cadillac Excalade). Even Old School '60s rides like Impalas or Buick Regals are likely targets for these new alterations. The customizations can be anything from a pair of oversized custom wheels, tires and trim, to a total interior makeover, which includes ICE (in-car entertainment), maybe upgrading to a superior sound system to adding several TV monitors in the headrests with DVD input. These modified upgrades can range in price from a few hundred dollars for a rim or wheel to a total ride renovation of $50,000 or more.

"Our inaugural show is not just new to Carlisle Events, but is in fact a new market segment taking the automotive-hobbyist marketplace by storm," John Detrick, Carlisle Events CEO. "Everywhere I look, I'm seeing aftermarket alterations being made to cars.

Over the past 10 years, it was mainly our younger audiences making modification to compacts, but now we're seeing this same audience…maturing a few years…and their parents tuning high-end luxuries, euros and SUVs. It's really been an remarkable transition in the hobby."

Not sure what to expect with this years new show to be honest! Some JGTC or similar cars will be nice. Being that the show opens Friday, I'm sure word will get out what is down there.

Have you ever been to the kit car nationals? I would rate that probably the most boring show at Carlisle...I went there by accident thinking it would be the 'import' car show, but it was just a bunch of kit cars on beetle frames etc etc

If thats your thing ***....

Yeah we've been going to both shows since 96. They used to be one combined show actually. We used to attend the compact show to drink beer make fun of the brokeback civics. One year some fools almost hit my NX and 3 other cars after doing locked rear tire 20mph burnouts down entire rows and soured us on the event. And we also just got sick of looking at row after row of fruity ass body kits and 20 inch wheels lambo doors and the other assorted crap that "shows" there.

The import show has much cooler cars like the old Datsuns/Nissans, Mazdas, Toyotas, MGs, BMWs, Lotus, Jags, Austins, Triumphs, Porsche, etc. I don't pay much attention to many of the kit carts but the Super 7 replicas kick ass!

/\ /\ Truth on the cooller race inspired cars, but it has been a while since going to the kit car one though...maybe I'll do that again this year to see if it's gotten better...again the last time I went it was full of just crazy looking bodys on other frames

The import show was always pretty silly, especially the last time at the fairgrounds...IIRC we got evacuated sort to say of the property because someone in the honda area pulled out a gun or something...but you are right about all the silly burn ous left and right!
