I have had requests from a few people about sharing rides at the track event. If you are planning on registering seperately and running in seperate groups using the same car it is not a problem.
If you are planning on splitting the sessions and using the same car and paying one fee it is NOT OK.
I just got off of the phone with Joe from PDA. He basically said sharing a car in the same group is against insurance regulations because of the fact that the co drivers of the vehicle have not registered and are not covered by insurance. Also it would be impossible for them to keep track of wrist bands and who is supposed to be on track at what point in time.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Why can't the co-drivers just register too? Seems like a simple solution to a not-that-complex problem.

Yeah thats a good point. What difference does it make if all the runs are in one group and in the same car? We all know that people who weren't registered have driven sessions in place of the "registered owne" at every convention we have ever had...

This is not like a county fair Ferris Wheel where you're paying for $xx per ride. In the case of track events you're paying a flat fee per participant.
What you're suggesting doing is no different than someone buying a ticket to a ball game and between quarters the guy walks out and hands the ticket to someone else and they swap out. Another metaphor is someone buying an all-day pass to Disney and walking out and giving it to someone else halfway through the day. In both situation, as in this track day, this is not allowed.
The price is $200 (or whatever) per armband issued. If you guys wanna buy two armbands and swap out sessions I'm sure that would be fine, but if you're proposing to buy one armband and swapping out session I don't see how that's do-able...
Just one man's very unofficial opinion, of course. - GA
What is necessary for two people with the same car to both get track time? This is quite important for me, however I am not even sure if I am on the list yet : ) Both myself and my father are using my car and we both have auto-x experience, stock car "driving schools," and I have lots of experience with other things such as drag racing and snomobile racing. Do you think either myself or my father would qualify for intermediate at this event? I assumed not but would be willing to if you think I would be ok. Thanks ~josh

Motorsports ADD is a real issue, and I think I've got it:
95 B14 SE-R, 95 Buell S2, 02 BBR SuperPro106, 05 CRF50, 06 Raptor 700, 06 KX450F
and the obligatory 06 Chevy Silverado dd/tow rig
Sounds like you can use the same car, just have to buy two wristbands. I guess I don't see the big deal. You pay the money, you're paying for three sessions... who cares if it's three different people.
I guess the confusing factor would be that if only drivers have wristbands, then if you split, you can't give all three a wristband, or else they could do all three sessions. Now that I think about it, it makes more sense. Still sucks though.
Not really, if ONLY drivers get wristbands, it still does not matter how many people are driving the car if ONLY the driver gets the wristband. A better question to ask is if the entry fee is per CAR or per DRIVER.
The way it is promoted tells me it is more of a PER CAR issue. IOW, if only x number of "people" (read cars) are allowed due to size and time constraints, why would it matter if one car is driven by 3 different people? it is still the same number of cars, just more drivers. With the individual driver getting less time than a single driver car.
Now, if the insurance sanction limits the number of people allowed, that is a different story.

Yes, that is what I thought at first, but if EACH driver has a wristband, what stops EACH driver from driving all three sessions? Obviously it could be stopped, but not without a bunch of headache and extra work for the track officials.

well.. if 3 people are sharing 1 car, obviously only 1 person can drive at a time

Everyone, please keep in mind that we are not running this event. It is a PDA track event that we have "bought out" all of their spots. However, we still need to play by their rules. Joe DiMinno called Joe Cassella (from PDA) and was told that, under no circumstances, will multiple drivers in the same car in the same run group in different sessions be allowed. We need to obey that, enforce it, and live with it. It is not the same as in past conventions where we write the rules. In the past, we have had multiple drivers in the same car in different run groups. PDA is a bit more strict than we are used to and anyone who's run their events before would know. If you would like to share a car, please make sure that you have a registration for each of you and that you are (preferably) in different run groups. Otherwise, you should try to find someone in a different run group who might be willing to share their car.

The main reason I was asking for co-drivers was to make the track event cheaper for me. I'll still honor the $75 per session deal to rent the car if you want.
