my issue is not the drive. If I had the time with my schedule to cut it, I would have. My work made it clear that I couldnt go during the busiest time of year for them. Like I said in another thread. I am going next year even if I have to cut my feet off to go. Chicago doesnt sound to bad but I love the idea of Vegas.....ohhhh the possibilities!
I am glad you didn't take the personally, it's just that regardless of where/when you plan it there will always be conflicts with people. I hope to see you in Chicago in 07, I will be there and am helping with some of the organization.

Please know we are keeping schol in mind when plannign next years event! As for the track, well that is not up to a vote, but rather who has the right date, price, and is willing to work with our club.

It will be in Vegas in 08! We may be the only people here but since I am no longer working I think we can pull it off. Plus I think I have helped at enough convention to have some people from other areas to help me out!
I can't wait til next year! It is always great to see everyone!!!!!

lol, ya it should be after school is out. It was snowing and only 47 degrees this past week. June would put the weather in the 70s. It sounds like a lot of people miss the Conventions due to school.

I don't care when it is, as long as it ISN'T the first weekend in July. I'm getting married 7/7/07 and I am not going to try and convince my wife that we have to delay the wedding because I have a HPDE or car picnic.

It'd be nice to host it in either May/June or late July/August. I'd actually prefer late July or early August, as there would be less chance for rain.

I vote for early June. Much later than that and the weather gets hotter, and my schedule gets ugly. After making it to this year's convention, if next year is in Chicago I VERY much want to be there...

I will go to all conventions for sure regardless of where they are or WHEN they are. I've only missed one since 2000 and that was due to my own wedding being a handful of weeks after the convention.

Plan your weddings around the convention if you know the date far enough in advance (the reception was booked 2.5 years in advance in my case).

Plan your wife/girlfriend being pregnant around the convention! You always have AT LEAST 9 months warning of when the convention is. When the convention date is announced, don't get so excited that you immediately celebrate with sex and wind up having a pregnant wife/girlfriend that prevents you from going to the convention

Plan your kid's school year around the convention. At parent/teacher conference at the beginning of the school year, make it perfectly clear to your kid's teacher that you WILL be pulling your child out of school for a few days and that the teacher is not to have any important tests or quizzes while your kid is gone.

Plan your vacation around the convention. The convention isn't as much a car geekout as it used to be. Many people bring wives and kids... it's becoming (I hope) more family-oriented. Tell your boss that you're going to a convention that is too hard to explain and it would take too long to explain so he just needs to deal with the fact that you're going and that he should deal with it.

Plan your major modifications around the convention. If you are planning on swapping an engine, don't do it anywhere within 3 months of the convention. Leave in that ratty old engine and blow it up at the convention! You'll be releived to know that you have a replacement sitting in your garage 1400 miles away. Better to blow up the old, tired engine than to blow up the brand new one.

So what if your car's not in the best shape. Just don't try to do the track event with it then! You can still come to the convention and borrow someone else's car or just watch the track event and participate in the rest of the weekend's festivities.

Any other excuses I've missed? Don't be pussies about it... go to the convention, any convention. I guarantee you'll be hooked!

Not an excuse... there are people who're poorer than any of us who make it to conventions. People complained that they were too poor to come to this year's convention. I was "too poor" to come to this year's convention and I helped organize the damned thing. Money is no excuse! I'm probably more in debt than a lot of you and the conventions just help me go further in debt. The convention is well worth that debt!

After this convention I have decided to
1) Not miss the convention because I am afraid to take the time away from work
2) Help orginize/run a convention when I have attended a couple more
3) Start having some fun in my life.
I already have my wife and her grandmother excited for the next convention. I am going to drop my wife off in Iowa on the way to the next convention to visit with her Grandma. We can all come up with reasons to not attend. Thats too easy. Find the way you CAN attend.
