It is a SERCA convention afterall. I'm not sure how the FL are left out of the loop, when they never show up to the loop to begin with. Organizing a meet is one thing, the convention is much more than that.
I know organizing a meet that lasted a couple of days is very hard and a lot of credit is given to the organizers, but don't be quick to put down a meet that handled 300 cars in one day with sponsers & free food.
I'm willing to bet organizing a meet that lasted 1 day with 300 cars could just about equate to a meet that lasted 3 days, with only 50 or so cars. Not to mention Rob and the organizers came out of pocket to serve the crowd free food.

Well, couple years back (don't remember exactly when)...we asked to see if we could have the convention here in SOFL, but we got the "no" basically because we don't have SERCA chapter down here
I think that was the same year as B-ham. I remember reading on the list about it. B-ham was picked over FLA b/c there was a chapter there and no one in FLA was giving firm comittments whereas B-ham was much more serious about it.

First, I'd love to go to a convention in Florida. Put together a proposal and we'll consider it. Personally, I see SERCA as defunct anyway and the forum is talking about incorporating the club so that's not an issue... more of an issue is whether or not there are firm committments from people to help. As was already mentioned, it takes nearly a year of your life. I don't know what to do with all the time I have on my hands the past few weeks. I'm constantly checking my e-mail but there's nothing there!
Second, this year we had around 50 cars on the track alone... probably somewhere around 100 (or more?) for the picnic. Over the course of the weekend, with people popping in and out we probably had close to 150 SE-R owners
Third, I put out $1,600 of my own money for the 2001 convention not knowing if I'd get any of it back! We're fortunate now that we have a reserve to draw from for future conventions.
Last, Melissa is right... you can't please all of the people all of the time. You can only aim to please most of the people most of the time and hope that you please some of the people some of the time.

Technically, the SE region includes SERCA. The no, was becuase no one was a SERCA member. The biggest thing about the convention, is paying for things. In order for SERCA to give out a loan for things like track rental, and the picnic, the orgainizers need to be members.

Why not have it at our local track here in Pacific Junction, Iowa www.midamericamotorplex.com This track is right smack in the middle of the US, and it's a nice safe track for beginners (ie no walls). The same guy that designed Gingerman did MAM too.

yeah Rob was talking about MAM, it would be a really good place to have it. Smack dap in the middle of the United States. I think they are remaking the 1/8 mile to a full 1/4 mile plus they keep adding onto the track with more to come. Plus i think they are making dirt tracks now for bike and atv's.

Not to mention it's all paved now.

Is there any talk on where the 2007 Convention is going to be? I'd really like to see it somewhere within a days drive of me, say 8 hours. So there's Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Topeka, Wichita. I can certainly find out about having at Mid-America Motorplex in Glenwood Iowa, which is about 30 minutes from Omaha. I know someone else looked into this for the 2005 convention. I'd certainly be willing to get things setup for the next one as far as working with MAM on those details, lodging info, etc. Omaha's not a big city so other than the Zoo and the College World Series (which is moving elsewhere eventually) there's nothing people come here to see. However it's very easy to get around in. There's major interstate from all directions to get here.
A day's drive? I did AL - PA in one day, psssht. Jamie made his ridiculous 30hr. trip in 2 days. Commitment, my friend!
While I'm at it, I seem to recall that signing up for SERCA was not an option for the 06 convention registration.... when, how, where can I finally support? It's spine-tingling to think that one more registration could make worlds difference for our community.... well, now that my car's running anyways.

Dude it was JUST there last year.... Please tell me you were there and are joking?
Am I the only one annoyed by vote's or suggestions from people that will only attend a convention in their backyard?
Edited with the hopes that was a joke.
Chicago sounds good lol, my backyard... Im putting my car in storage for the next 4 years of college life just so I can attend the next 4 conventions no matter whre they are, I dont care if they are in cali, i am driving out.
I was at Gingerman the other day and asked about availability next year in May and June and they said they don't have anything as of yet. Not sure which track you're thinking about, but let me know if you need more info from Gingerman.
