What is your timing set to? Do a compression test while your at it. Because it sounds like it's coming form the engine it can be coming from somewhere else from under the hood.
Good luck.

Just my two cents... I have prothanes. and i have rattle noises coming from everywhere. Ivce just gotten used to it. I would have a friend (underneath hood) semi-revving the engine with you inside the car. and just listen and pinpoint where exactly the noise is.as far as it being and engine problem or internal car problem. The limits

The chain will be fine, there's a tensioner built into the system, and I've never heard of an sr have a chain problem. If it's actually in the motor, odds are it's a rod bearing. 66k is way early for that though. I bet it's something loose in the engine bay. I had a loose corner marker once that rattled like hell, took me about a week to find it.

Or it could be the plastic fender liner, if it gets loose at the bottom of the front bumper cover it'll rub like crazy. That's what happen to me and I thought it was an internal engine noise.

some more issues

alright, i had removed the safety guide from the top, and i had accidently dropped one of the bolts in the timing area i could not find it, so i fired her up and everything was fine. after going down the road initially everything is good and all of a sudden the my intake sounded a ton louder and every gear it stuggles to rev higher then 5k. have replaced the egr but still get the code(probaly the pipe) could that be the problem because at higher idle it sounds like the engine is missing any insight would glady be appreciated.
