5th Gear Popping Out?

Hi,

I've heard that with the B13 Sentra SE-R's they have a problem with the 5th gear when they get higher in miles. Does the 200SX SE-R have these problems?

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it in a B14/200SX. I have a 95 with 133k and my trans is perfect. Anything after 94-95, is free from 5th gear popout.

This is really making me consider not getting a B13. How often does it really happen on a B13? How much on a B14 do you think? Also, if it does pop out, is the only way to fix it to replace the entire trans?

So, the only way to fix this is by replacing the whole trans...right?

They make a kit that you put in to fix the problem.

Also I noticed someone said something about 98 with no problems. I would steer clear of 97 and 98 no LSD.

I've had 3 B13s that never had 5th gear popout and probably about 6 that have had it.

If you have 5th gear popout, you can usually get away with replacing 5th gear and the 5th gear shift collar. Those 2 pieces basically lock into each other. If you've ever heard of chinese finger cuffs, they kinda work like that.

Yeah I got my fifth gear fixed, with the tranny already pulled, for about 590 parts and labor, had to wait 3 months for the parts to come in. It sucked, but its working great now.

That's a good price. I spent almost $300 on parts, did the work with the help of friends.

Don't let anyone BS you. My '98 B14 SE-R has 5th gear pop-out at 120k. Hoping to pick up a tranny cheap. Can't afford too much.

The B15 tranny does not seem to have this problem and thus holds up much better to high HP applications.
The problem was NOT fixed until the B15/P11 tranny re-design. The B13 tranny and B14 tranny BOTH suffer from this problem.

If you want to "fix it for good" read this:

http://www.sr20forum.com/driveline-transmission/97257-how-p11-b15-transmission-swap-into-b13-b14-p10.html

That ^^^ is how to swap in a re-designed, better, stronger, P11/B15 tranny into your B13/B14.

BTW, make sure you use Redline Shockproof in your tranny, and invest in some Prothane motor mounts. Those will both help with longevity of a B13/B14 tranny.
