Ameen's Tail Light & Corner Project!!!
It's boring, I want more!
Story:
All of you know that the 1998 models came with the rare bubble lights with the black outline and the flat black trunk tray (like the above picture). Well I like them a lot, but I wanted to try something different. Plus I'm bored and its too cold outside to work on the car. I like the look of my lights, but I would like to be able to have options...
Stained Glass Painting:
Well I ended up buying a set of old corners and tails from a part out on a pre 98 b14 200SX (member here). I had some good things in mind. My intentions were to Find some stained glass paint (red & orange), and get rid of the amber in the rear lights, and actually fully amber the corners. The brand of paint that I am using is Krylon Stained Glass Paint. I couldn't find the orange color (9023) without ordering online, so I ended up buying red and yellow (9020 and 9024). The sh*t is hard to find but, You can find it at Michael's if your lucky. It's on clearance now but they don't sell orange anymore. You can order it online at
www.artcity.com if you want to wait for it. I was too impatient... sooo
Tinting:
To commemorate my previous vehicle I will be tinting the tails (and possibly the corners a little bit). After the stained glass paint dries and cures a couple days... I plan on using VHT Nite Shades. This paint can be found on ebay usually for around 12 dollars shipped. This way the tails can match the middle trunk tray a little better. Not sure how it will turn out, but here is an example on my old car, and on another person's 200SX. I would like to go a little lighter though.
Progress as of 02/19/06:
It's sweet because I will always have my OEM corners and tails to switch out whenever I feel the need. Here are some pics to see my progress. Feel free to ask questions.
You can see all these pictures here:

Drying it out... More to come
- All of this was done within two hours... (not including waiting between coats)
- Lights were sanded with a coarse and fine sanding sponge
- They were then leaned with a paint prepping towel at Auto Zone.
- Used about 2-1/2 coats on the tails...
- Interval LIGHT coats of yellow, yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow, yellow, etc... to my liking.
- Drying is 30 minutes per coat... I let them sit for 45 minutes or so...
I will post additional pics after I tint everything next week, whenever the VHT comes!
Tell me what you think, and I will answer all questions as they come... I got to study tonight... talk to you later.
