Painting B14 Dash/ Trim

I am looking to paint the dash and its trim pieces in my 95 200SX...does anyone know if it is difficult to remove the dash itself or if there is any possibility of setting off the airbag? If anyone has any info at all regarding taking the dash itself out please let me know. Don't want to do something I am going to regret. Thanks!

You are going to regret painting the dash...

Here's my opinion... don't paint the dash.

Eh, that depends on what he's going to paint it. I'm painting mine...but it's also going to be flat black...so...I'm not REALLY changing anything. Just making it look less faded.

I agree though, you're going to regret it...taking the dash out anyway. I'm pulling piece's right now and I gave up. Just don't take off any screws that don't belong to the dash/trim...

You should be buying other things for your car instead of wasting it on paint. Rice is only good for eating.

I would not paint your dash. think of the sun. Cracking and splitting paint is the worst. It will peel and look horrible.

This is an official SR20forum.com intervention. Please put down the paint and step away from the car, sir. You'll thank us later.

haha maybe I wasn't specific about what I intended to do. I am def not goin for a riced out look for the interior by painting the dash. I simply wanted to paint it a flat black to match the rest of my interior...but if you all say its ghetto and too much of a pain in the ass, then I'll take everybody's word for it. Thanks for the info.

Um, if your sh*t is hella faded, paint it. I painted mine with the flat black from Dupli-Color. Here's a photo. It's not much of a change and this part wasn't that bad, but I wanted to test it out on something no one notices. It was worth it enough where I've pulled out more of the interior to touch it all up...

Before:

After:

It's not that big of a change and the photos aren't the best. But, it definately gives it a darker look. Looks f'in new! I didn't sand it or anything, which I could do and put texture back on it, but I'm hella lazy and just trying to get it to look a little better. You just have to wait like 72hours to put Armor-All or whatever you choose on it. I'll have more photo's when I'm done, but I decided to paint my trunk carpet with the rest of the can...so, I have to buy more.

Anyways, the dash is a PITA, but...I'm still gonna do it. If I figure it out, there will be a HOW TO. I'll PM you if you want when I'm done. Do what you want, don't ask opinions *** everyone is biased and here's 'paint interior' and automatically screams ricer. My interior is painted and I'm pretty sure you can't say the above photo's look ricey at all.

Oh, and that's two coats and I didn't prep it at all. So, it'll probably flake, but when it comes to that, I'll redo it the right way. The rest will be prepped right. You just have to clean it down with some rubbing alcohol and I'd probably use the prep wipes Dupli-Color sells. I bought one, it's like a buck and the can was like $6.49. You'll probably need two cans for the dash. So for under $15 and some work...worth it to me. Oh and the paint I used was Dupli-Color Fabric&Vinyl Flat Black.

PS.
Your wacked out name screams young highschool ricer, so that's why people probably jumped quick. Either way, do what you want. I like a clean car, some of these guys just want to go fast and don't give two sh*ts about little details...

Well thanks for the info and the pics man. That's all I was really asking for. Sadly, I have the base model 200SX so the interior is a bunch of random, mismatched shades of grey. I've done a few pieces so far with a can of flat black paint and I used a polyurethane finish which actually seems to have worked pretty well with protecting and preserving it. Definitely let me know if you get that dash out and how difficult it ends up being, I'll hold off until then and let you deal with it haha. And I agree with you about having a clean car, that's the look I am going for. Not that bubble gum piece of sh*t that the other guy posted tryin to be funny.

I had a tan interior in my sentra and tried spray painting some pieces black. Unfortunately some came off over time, so expect it to happen to yours as well.

Haha...well, to tell you the truth...I'm about to dump that idea too. Haha. It got on my nerves trying to find bolts and figuring out what piece I had to take off before I could take off this piece to take of this piece. BLAH.

All my crap matches, it's just badly faded in some areas, so after the 'conditioner' wears off, it looks faded again. Plus, I don't like the smell of this crap and I don't want to have to keep buying it over and over again. I just want to be able to wipe it down with some cheap stuff and be done with it. Check out my thread in the members rides section for updates though. I'm probably gonna finish up some interior pieces tomorrow, I've just been busy trying to find a job...you know, important stuff. haha...

DO NOT TRY TO TAKE THAT sh*t OUT!

I took the one out of my parts car out, and I broke the windshield trying to get the 2 bolts near the glass out!
