Cutting front spindles to fit dust cap

Has anyone cut the front wheel spindles? I purchased new wheels, and the spindles poke through the center bore about 1/2" so the dust cap wont fit.
Even if I cut 1/2-3/4" off, there are still 5 or more threads before you get to the nut. Anyone see any problems with this?

Don't do it. Wheel manufacturer should offer an alternative dust cap;SSR had a chomed plastic replacement for the super-cool billet caps that were too shallow.
