s4's & ECU

Well, I got my s4's & ECU installed today. There's no way I could have done the cams without Toolapcfan (Rob). THANKS! We really didn't run into any issues other than being short a few tools. We did the install in my dads garage since he has a 3 car garage & a 55,000 btu kerosene heater but it set us back just a bit cause of the tools issue. I would say the whole thing was a little over three hours. Started the car after the install & it sounded great. I expected a little clanking for the first few minutes but really didn't hear any. The idle at red lights is a little rough but I figured it would be that way just from reading on here. Only driven it about 30 miles so far so I really don't know what the gains are gonna be yet. I did the ECU tonight, no problems there. I'll post again once I hit about the 75 mile mark & open it up. Thanks again Rob. And thanks Chris from http://www.sr20development.com

Congrats on the new parts. I can imagine your reaction the first time you cross 5k at full throttle and stay in it until around 7500. Then you shift and feel it again. You'll learn to love them. I love mine.

For sure... there really aren't many other options for ECUs for our cars.

Yah, JWT, Storm88000 is right, not much else out there. I'm sure I'll recommend this setup as soon as I get past enough miles to check em out & find a damn road with no snow or ice! DAMN YOU WINTER!! DAMN YOU!!

hehe

as soon as you hit 5k you are going to have the biggest grin...
If i were you i would also check timing. there seems to be an issue with a few SE-L owners having their timing set at 10-12* When we bump it back up to 15* the car feels smoother.

Yeah, when i adjust my timing, it was at 9*. When I put it at 18* it felt like a different machine.

I can't wait for cams! You guys are making me salivate! My dilemma is do I go cheap and get comp cams or HKS for $370 or do I wait for another JWT group buy.

I've always read about people having the timing at 15* for S4's but is that just with the JWT ECU? Can't more power be had at 17-19 with a stock or G20 ECU?

S4 cams seem to like 15* timing. Also advance your idle a tiny bit to around 800-850 rpm if you have the g20 or stock ecu. It smoothed out my idle and did give a better throttle responce. Also the CAI now makes an evil hissing noise

Nice times BTW very impressive. Was that on slicks or with weight reduction?

Sounds good, I can't wait.

Thanks man, we talked before I believe... that was on the stock street tires. Weight reduction was passenger and rear seats, spare and jack. It was a good 45 degree night for racing.

im at about 17* with my S4's they feel very very good (a tad better than 15* when i dynoed) My friend with S3's dynoed and found that he got the best numbers at 17*.

of course we get 94 octane gas around here so we can party like that
