It rained today where I live and then froze so I figured this is as good a time as any to check how the ABS worked. Well it didnt, so I looked at the manual and it said if there were somthing wrong it would set off a code and the ABS light would come on. I just got the car and about a week after having it I noticed the rear driver side disk was rusty and that the brake wasnt doing its job. I did manage to get the caliper working and its fine now. If that were the problem would I just have to reset the codes or would that have no corilation with the ABS not working. Or did the owner before me maybe pull the ABS light before I purchased it and there is a bigger problem? I would look to see if the light was still there or not but its very cold and I have no garage to speek of. Any help would be great.
Are you sure that your se-r has ABS? It didnt come standard... unless an ABS light comes on when you turn on your car, then goes off, I dont think you have ABS
I guess I just figured it was standard. I'll look into that but I bet your right. Thanks for the help.
Easy way to find out.
Look around the pass. side strut tower. If you see a small wire harness plug into a mystery black box on the tower, then you have ABS. If you see an empty plug only, then your car (and a whole lot of other SE-R's) does not have ABS.

gotta ABS question....i also did the same homie did and
stomped on the brakes when it was raining....front/left side wheel was the only one that locked up...but did it again another time then it didnt lock up....i have a 97 200sx ser....i dont see a harness with a plug and black box on the shock tower....and my guage doesnt light up the"abs" light....but the car has all the fuses, relay, etc for abs.....does that still mean i dont have abs???
Check with your hand behind the disk rotor. If it has ABS there will be a sensor there and a thick cable going out of it. If not, the brake line will be the only thing coming out of the brake.
If you had ABS.. you would know it the first time you hit the brakes hard on rain or snow.... it really kicks the pedal, and then makes a strange noise after its all done, like it is recharging.... my 95 se-r has ABS.... and yes the light flashes on when you start the car... personaly it has saved my ass a few times and i like it. If i wanna spin around, that is what the e-brake is for.

Sounds exactly like my black 200, which does not have ABS.
okay i tried it again today (raining)....going 65..slamed on the brakes...
with both hands on the wheel of coarse....i guess i dont have abs
which kinda sucks this times of the year...i just gotta be a little more careful...also glad i dont have it because it sucks when your taking corners when ur slowing down before the apex and the abs goes on....
