Exhaust - muffler size, review

What's best to get for the 200sx SER, an offset inlet 5x8 or center inlet?

Just got a Magnaflow race series 6"round muffler put on today along with a thrush resonator and 2.25" with mandrel bends. Unfortunately the race series mufflers have a 2.5" core and this setup is loud as hell, with too much interior resonance during normal driving. Maybe the small section of crush bent 2.5" pipe they had to use right before the muffler has something to do with it. Hope it'll quiet down in a week or so, but I doubt it. And I was worried it'd be too quiet along with the 24" Thrush!

So I'm thinkin of going with a 5x8 magnaflow 2.25 with either a 14" or 18" can. Hopefully the smaller diameter will hush it up enough to make it pleasant to drive, but still sound good. Any recomendations on either a 14 or 18"?

I went with an 18" oval with offset center... fit perfect. Generally, the bigger the can of the same design muffler (or resonator), the quieter the system.

Thanks for the tips. Yep, taking a better look at it, it's clear the offset/center will match up best. Emailed Magnaflow, and they said that the Race Series ones are louder than their universal ones. Also said that they use the 5x8, 14" one on their cat back system for the Sentra, and that it would be a good deal quieter.

I'm guessin' they must use different packing on the Race Series mufflers or else they're less perforated or somethin' like that. Will have to give the 5x8 a shot real soon, car sounds like it's about to sprout wings.

Got the 5x8x14 on and it sounds much quieter. Has a great tone, and don't need ear plugs for daily driving. Slight drone on the highway, but not too bad. Quite a difference there between this one and the race series.
