suspension opinions

Well ill start with introducing myself heh. names chris i just got my 97 200sx se-r about 2 months ago. anyhow next on my list of upgrades is of course suspension. After searching(woot i tried to avoid making the newbie mistake of not searching) i see the most popular setups really seem to be eibach/kyb groundcontrol/kyb and tein ss. My main fear is being so low that i scrape. Im leaning towards the tein ss. any opinions out there?

You should be fine with the KYB's and Eibach Pro-Kits. Don't under any circumstances get the Sportlines. They SUCK. I know from experience.

It all depends on if you want adjustability or not. With a KYB / Eibach setup you can not adjust the height of a car as would be able to with say a Tein SS / Tein Basic setup.

adjustable hide height isnt that big of a deal to me. I just want something that rides nice, makes the car look more agressive and of course isnt so low that is scrapes.

Tein Basics are what your looking for. The KEY word you used was "Good ride". They come with shortened struts so the ride isn't near as harsh as just using lowering springs on stock length struts. Stock length struts with anymore than an inch drop will have you bouncing on the bump stops.

With out a doubt..... TEIN..... If you can upgrade to the 1200 range JIC has a nice option also.

Go with the Tein basics if you can afford it. Once you ride in a B14 with even a pretty good setup like high rate GC's and AGX's, you'll realize how little travel we have with stock length struts on. I have AGX's with H&R springs and Koni bump stops. The ride and handling on SMOOTH roads is great but I hate having to slow down and keep my eyes peeled for even small potholes.

Most of the roads I take to work are pretty smooth. But the last road I take to work is BAD, so I hate it

Weird. I also got my 97 SE-R two months ago and the first thing it's getting is a suspension upgrade. I'm saving up for the Tein Basics. By 'saving' I mean waiting for my tax return.

sway bar

so along this line fo discussion, I am planning on getting some sway bars as the first part of my suspension upgrade. From the search I did, it looks like the adj. Progress is a good bar. It also seems most people suggest just running an aftermarket rear bar because the stock front bar is enough. Is this true? Anybody running the stock front with the Progress rear? Anyone running both? Does the car push with both?

Yes you wont really need a front bar. A stiffer front bar will give more understeer than we already have. Get the progress rear, and you can tune from neutral to a little bit of oversteer.

And drive to Viginia to get the rear beam bent to zero toe. It helps.
