neutral position switch is to let the computer know when you are in neutral, via transmission Lets say you are cruising at 40 mph and you see the light turn red up ahead, throw in in neutral and coast to a stop. The sensor I guess is supposed to force the RPM back down to idle. IDK if it's for emissions or gasmilage, but I THINK that's the point of it.
