Chris, I've been wanting to do this mod for awhile. While cruising the local Pic and Pull this morning I noticed that the BMW 325 series mount their battery in the trunk. They use a nice heavy cable with really good end fittings and a covered box on the firewall for distribution to the engine components.
I grabbed all the parts, including the cable to the starter for $5. I'm thinking it should fit on our cars as my B13 seems to be about the same size as the 325. Others may want to check this out as an option.
