Putting in a JDM SR20DET would be nice but don't want to put that kind of money into a daily driver. I kinda would like to keep it N/A so I don't have to deal with turbo piping and wire harness. I can get a USDM SR20DE for just $450. My dad works for a dealership so free shipping. And if what you say is true about pricing, then I may just opt to that. Also, I don't know if you mean by cheaper includes having a machine shop do the work but I won't be doing that. If the block is in good condition I can just hone the cylinders and cut the ridges at the top of the cylinder with a ridge reamer. Both I can do myself.
I haven't pulled the motor out and torn into it yet so I don't even know if the block is good. All I know is that when it runs there is a nasty knock (more like a pound) from inside the block. After taking off the steel oil pan I felt up into it and also in the bottom of that pan I found metal shavings in there. I hope it's rod on crank or rod on piston grinding. Other than the noise it runs great, no missing or weak idle.
