i did this a few days ago to privide effecient space in my engine bay. i already had 4 gauge running to my bass. just cut and soldered it to the terminal i took off the battery and same. grounded out to the strutt after paint was removed. did it for 0$ mainly because i already had the 4 gauge. i had the same idea with the stock battery brackets and housing, just self tapped them into the trunk. works great!!! for solder i used some 63-47 (best, no melting point, reffer ICP-A-610 doccument ) solder with a medium flux and a blowtorch, awesome setup! no problems this far.
