Purely cost, plus this setup has shown to be a suitable one for beginner drivers. My plan was to start with a less expensive setup, build my skills as a driver until I can outdrive them, cage the car, and then go with a nice coilover setup.

This is an option, although I've heard their stateside customer service really sucks. "Rebuildability" is a major concern since I don't want to have to drop $2k+ every time they need to be rebuilt just to get brand new units.

For this reason, I am currently leaning toward Tein RS's or Ground Control Advance Designs. I had the latter on my Civic hatch, and they are amazing. Customer service was great, rebuilding is easy, and the construction was top-notch. I would also consider an offering from Koni if I were made aware of one in this range.

Ultimately I will know my ride height within 0.5 - 1", and have a spring rate and damping rates nailed down, so I only have to specify these things to (for instance) Koni and have them build something to my specifications. Off-the-shelf will have to do until I get to this point though.

Hey, hope the buildup is still goin smooth, thought you might like to see this setup I came across on Driftsession. It's kinda like a front mount combined with a V-mount, so it has the short pipes. Oh and you don't have to notch the radiator support.

Ouch, I think I would cry!

I can kinda see what the design looks like, but the picture is small and doesn't focus on the area of interest. Any more pictures?

Theirs one more, but it's not too detailed either. Here it is:

The intercooler is under the air guide, and the pipes run into/out the very ends of it. Both the radiator and iintercooler are tilted backwards.

That helps a little bit, actually. Thanks.

Update: Russ will definitely be coming up this weekend to help finish the wiring, including the fuel pump. After that, I only have to purchase and install the lower radiator hose, find and install a few other small hose bits, and add oil to the engine and tranny. Wish me luck!

NEW PIKTARZ!!!

Russ’s wiring job:

Test-fitting the dash:

I did this to determine boost and oil pressure gauge mounting location, in addition to determining which brackets I needed to keep.

Removing those I didn’t:

The GReddy control units mounted and about to be connected to the sending units:

Using some 8mm silicone vacuum tubing to make the connection:

I’m not sure if silicone will work here, as it’s incompatible with gasoline and oil. Any thoughts?

Running the wiring from the control units to the gauges:

Another one of Jordan’s artsy shots, this time with a lensbaby:

here's the picture i have of it... the IC sits right in front of the radiator (yes, his welding was ugly when he made that piping):
Also, where did you order all your blue vaccuum hosing from (coolant overflow tube too)

RoadRace Engineering, in the "DIY" section. Mainly a DSM group from what I can tell, but they have everything in stock that I've needed. I originally wanted to do black for the tubing, but it's too damned hard to come by. The blue isn't too bad...it's actually starting to grow on me.

Depends on the vacuum connection in question. After talking with the head guy (don't remember his name) at RRE, he offered to name a vacuum hose kit after me like he did with the DSM one on their site if I could come up with the lengths and diameters of tubing in question. Let me dig through my notes to see what I can come up with.

shiftmunky... that line on the vc to the vacuum line, the silicone hose... well you will get small amounts of oil. i would run it, then check it later that day to assess how much came through there.
