the flexpipe isnt a must, but it'll help prevent cracking the flange off the dump-pipe and help reduce vibrations....not many people run them because its not that big of a deal, but in terms of longevity, it'll help everything last.

agreed... I only paid $60 shipped for the current DP, I might buy a better one later and add a flexpipe, or one with it already built into it.

Something needs to happen for sure... I'm getting tired of burning myself at the track between each session trying to tighten my 02 housing up

Here is how I spent most of my last track day... photo courtesy of Dan (Supra owner)

I think you'll be fine with the safety wiring. I haven't had any issues with this loosening *yet*, but will go this route when/if I do.

andy is too lazy to safety wire, hell just use super glue instead

but seriously, just put a flex-pipe in the downpipe, itll be the easiest thing ever, and you wont have to safety wire ever again....

Ha. I have a feeling I haven't had any problems (at least partially) because my exhaust is lightweight and well-supported.

Surprising what a few track days can do for finding all the weak points in your build... I've experienced this first hand more times than I've wanted to.

I'll start up a new thread once I give this some more thought... after the suspension, LSD, and Z32 BMC are installed over the course of the next month or two.

Sounds like a cop-out. I've found issues, they just haven't been the ones we've discussed...

1) June - VIR: Alternator ground ring terminal snapped off. At-track fix is the current configuration: simply replacing the ring. Future plan is to get more flexible wire and use the better ring terminal I bought.

2) October - VIR: Developed or caused trans fluid leak to worsen. Fluid covered the underside of the car, and sloshed onto the exhaust in T1/T2, causing smoke. I suspect the drain plug is the problem, since I saw it backed itself out, and this is either because it's messed up or I forgot to apply sealant to the threads when changing the fluid before the event.

Despite being loud and having stock brakes with mediocre pads, the car performs amazingly. Future events will be a progression in finding problems, upgrading parts, or both.

to avoid me and andy arguing on this thread like we usually do i'll only quote this one bit

its a great way to go about modding the car andy, using experience to make changes, rather then changes to attempt to gain experience. which is why for the first time in 2.5 years of track events, im finally upgrading to coilovers.

No complaints here...

Good advice for anyone that is getting into track days. When I have friends that want to get into doing track days, I try to get them not to touch the car till they've gotten a few track days in, then make changed as needed.

I've had to beat this into a few of my friends that kept skipping track days because their car didn't have every part that they THOUGHT they needed to do a track day. The worse part was that, one coworker in paticular, had only one track day under his belt. Once he started doing a few more track days with what he had, his mindset started to change on what he needed for the car... it was an 04 Cobra and he learned quickly that he needed brakes

My goal for next year, once I get the remainder of the stuff on it from the garage, is to just drive it and hopefully not have to touch it for at least a year, then think about making changes if needed.

I took your lead when I decided on the AGX/S-Tech combination. Some people look at me like "WTF" when I tell them what I'm using. Not sure why exactly, but I think they consider coilovers a staple upgrade for S-chassis. At this point it looks like I'll go the custom strut body / Koni route Monty is heading down, but I certainly haven't made up my mind.

I've also gotten similar looks/comments when people find out I'm using the stock T25. As many times as I've explained the reasoning, I should just print cards to hand to people. Just to be safe though: it's because the car doesn't need any more power right now. It needs safety, reliability, and driver upgrades before anything else!

Along the same lines, my latest upgrades have been reliability-related per the above conversation, and most 2008 upgrades will either be the same or for safety. I would like to get a half cage installed in the Spring to at least stiffen up the rear and give me some rollover protection, with the remaining part of the cage hopefully coming a year from then. We'll see how things go...I am still working on the wife to get her to understand that although a cage/seats/harnesses are a lot of money, they're primarily to keep me from getting really hurt. You'd think this would be a priority for her with the baby/mortage/whatever, but she hasn't quite caught on yet.
