SR20DET tranny on KA24DE+T

So yeah I was wondering about putting an S15 6spd tranny on a KA24DE motor. Is it possible? I heard there were difficulties in the fitment of the bell housing... any way to get around this? If not would a getrag from a 350z or something fit it? how can i go about making a 6spd KA24DE?

The bell housing on the S15 6-spd doesnt match the KA block, so you're gonna have to use the KA bell housing on the S15 tranny. I am not sure if that's doable or not, but the S15 tranny does not have a hole for the speed sensor, as it's in the diff.

And to my knowledge, the 350z does not have a Getrag tranny. Just because it's a 6-spd doesn't mean it's automatically a Getrag.

To get the 350z tranny to fit your KA you're probably going to have someone make you some adaptors and such. Mazworx is very good at doing that now.

Furthermore, the 350z's gear ratios are good for the VQ motor, that's about it.

There's a thread about the 350z's gearbox on FA just recently, do a search for it there.

crap.. what about adaptor plates for the S15 tranny? I saw adaptor plates for mounting a ford transmission to the KA, but i'd rather stick with a nissan transmission. Are there any differences in the S13 and S14 trannies? Pros and cons of both of them? And where can i find a cheap one? I wanna ditch this KA tranny for something with better syncros and a shorter 5th gear. Will the KA speed sensors and everything mount up? Or do i have to convert to Km/H?

Sounds like you need to research the hell out of this topic man... Go to Fresh Alloy's forums and run searches, but don't post, or else you're gonna get flamed to beyond 3rd degree burns over there.

But here's my last bit of spoon feeding:

S13/S14 SR trannies are the same as the KA trannies, gear ratio and teeth and everything wise. Supposedly the S14 SR trannies are stronger but those are all just claims, no real fact to back that up.

The whole "keeping it Nissan" thing is stupid when it comes to transmissions. If there was a way to bolt up a cheap, bulletproof transmission with a ton of aftermarket support (say I want to change the gear ratios, I can get them relatively easily), you bet your potatoes I'm gonna jump on it. Turns out the Tremec T5 is a very good option, and those just happened to be what the Mustangs have as a transmission, so I wouldn't exactly call it a "Ford" transmission, as Tremec made it.

Anyway, research research research!!!
