S14 - Sr20det Automatic swap???

Well I've been searching for a while and I've found a s14 -s20det automatic trans swap. My car currently came with a sr20det 5spd. I wanted to know if I could swap just the motor? What kind of mods would I have to do? If anyone has detailed info & or maybe pics that would be great.

Is this even worth buying or should I keep searching for a 5spd swap?

Thanks for all your help!

why do you want to swap it to automatic?
and its just the transmission and all the related parts you would need(pedals, shifter, sensors, ecu, etc.)
no need for another engine

so ur buying a auto? and already have a 5 speed thats been wired up? then i believe all ud need to do is take off the torque converter. its like the "fly wheel" on a manual trans. just take that off then it should bolt right up to ur trans. why dont you just replace the piston rings?

wow that sounds GREAT!!!! Actually the car the replacement motor is going in is K's s14 Silvia. So it originally came with a sr20det. The reason why Im not just rebuilding I want a quick fix while Im rebuilding the original motor. Plus the swap is somewhat cheap.

Anything else I should know?

Again thanks for all your feedback. You have no idea grateful I am

Hello All,

Im back with questions. I finaly got the replacement motor!! Complete Sr20det motor that came out of a car equipped with a automatic transmission.

Well, based on what everyone said above the install should be very straight forward. However I did notice a few differences in the motors. The motor I currently have in my Silvia (zenki) is the original motor that came with the car. From what I was told the motor Im going to swap came from a 97 Silvia.

One of the difference I notice is the throttle body has one connector and the other motor has two? Could someone tell me I need to swap throttle body? I've posted pictures of both motors so you can see the differences.

My current motor

The replacement motor

The other difference I noticed the replacement motor has a tube that runs from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. Im not sure if this is an EGR valve? And would I need to change or block these off? would there be an difference if I didn't change it?

Also is there anything else anyone could think of that I might need to change?

Thanks again!

It's a Auto TPS thats why it has 2 plugs. You can swap over your old TPS or the plug into one of them and the tps will work. If the EGR is on the new one just leave it be and drop the motor in the car. If ur going manual don't forget to take out the Auto Pilot bushing thats in the crank.

So the swap is complete but Im having some issues.

1. When I first started the car the car idled @ 2000 and wasn't dropping. Then after about 5 min the idle started to jump to 1800 and back up to 2000. I checked all my pugs and nothing is disconnected except for one small pug under the throttle. (since my other motor was from a zeki It didnt have that extra plug. Ill attach a picture) I also have two vacuum hoses that go to the evac canister but my car didn't have one when I got it. Should I locate one & connect the hoses or plug the hoses? Could that cause my idle to jump?

2. Im getting smoke from the exhaust side. I know I have some leftover oil that was on my down pipe from the last motor as it had bad valve guides. I probably should have cleaned the down pipe but I figured it would burn the left over oil quick. The turbo is spotless with no oil dripping so should be good.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Here are some pics.

Zenki Silvia

Original motor & replacment motor.

This motor had bad valve guides. The bottom end is good though. As you can see it was leaking tons of oil.

Oil was spilling into the exhaust & coming out the tail.

Ill post more pics later.

You might have to reset your timing and adjust the idle. I'm sure it's not set for a 5speed. The smoke will burn off once the oil burns away for sure. If not the turbo might be going bad.

Thanks for the suggestion. Well the idle seems to have fixed itself. once I bled the clutch I lowered it back down & reved the motor and it automatically dropped. As for the smoke I just let car run & burn off the oil. Im hoping its just the leftover oil.
