mine complites are 15x7 ,with 35 offset, and I am running 205/50-15 with a ton of clearance. The rear was close to rubbing the strut body without the spacers, but it was not close to rubbing the spring perch like yours.

I believe that the total diameter of you tires is your problem, not the width.
With a 17 inch tire, even 40 series you are taller than say a 16 inch 40 series tire.
Tearoffguy has 205/40-16 on a 16x7 wheel with 38 offset on his nx.It is close, but fits with no rubbing anywhere with no spacers. He is also running hyperco/agx on his nx.
You are like an inch taller than that,if you figure it out.
Go to tirerack I think they have a wheel size calculator that will show you the difference in total rolling diameter.
You will definately have a little shorter gearing with a shorter tire, which probably is not a good thing with that monster under your hood.
I thought you had a p11 tranny so that will help.

Its funny after looking at my car everyday, your wheels look HUGE to me.I bet my wheels look weird to you..haha
I am sure you know my car is black as well so they look alot alike.
Mines my daily so its way tamer than your beast...lol

I will have to take pics of the strut clearance tomorrow.(today, lol)
Heres a couple pics of the fender profile from when I put the spacers on.
