There are 3 ways, in my case I swapped the VVL stock ecu, this cause I was looking to have the car rolling without having to install a SAFC(mainly because of the emissions test that takes place every year here), and the fact that I needed the car rolling ASAP (I swapped the engine and had the car rolling with a friend in 24hrs straight :P) however my plan was eventually to get a calum chip to mount it on the SR20DE ECU.

That is actually the best option, you can get a calum chip, have someone putting it into the SR20DE ECU or ship your ECU to Calum so he can do the work for you (however he is like missing in the twilight zone as off this moment (kinda difficult to locate:P)). Advantages: You can do a very good tune, move the rev limit up to 8200 and some other tweaks (specially if you get the Calum RT)

Third: And not my favorite: Use your stock SR20DE ECU, plus a SAFC II and a window switch to open the VVL (I had to do it as well)
