I pulled out my front glass myself (with lotsa help) for having the cage done. It isn't hard to do, but takes a lot of time and muscle power. Just get a wire and two handles and cut the thing out slowly. Carry it vertically when you take it out to reduce the chance of breakage.
This is common. If you take out the windshield, you'll likely get a better fit and better welds.
