n/a spark plug gap

my motor is running a msd 6a ignition w/ ss blaster coil. had it for about well over a year. i was wondering if it would run better increasing the gap more, lowering it or leave it where it is. its set at 0.40 now.

i'm only running a Crane Cams LX91 coil with 1.4mm plug gap and no misfires.... runs smoother actually. i dare say you can run at least 1.5mm

from what i heard that you could run a larger gap cause of the additional spark thats coming from the coil. i think it might cause up start and idle problems. im not sure if its true or not.

i am also to try increasing gap size on my ignition too
but yes, 1.5mm was said to work very well with these upgraded ignitions
i am running a msd dig 6 and a blaster hvc II coil

stronger the coil, more gap u can run but also the bigger the gap the more strain on the coil

I run all my NA motors at .047in. ... 1.2mm ..even with stock ignitions , always seen gains ... dang I used to run the Altima at .050in at the track ...Bone stock ignition with NGK wires and BKR7E-11 plugs ...never once had any issues ...

ok so basically what your saying is that its ok to run a bigger gap w/o any misfire issues. what gain do you get when you increase the gap from 0.040 - 0.047 plus in addition w/ the advanced timing?

BKR7EIX-11 @ 0.047"

SR20DE with SR16VE pistons.... 11.85:1 CR

Edit 1: I forgot one thing... my plugs were supposed to have a 0.044" gap but when we took them out they were @ 0.034", the same thing happened to a friend of mine, why is that??? any ideas??

Edit 2: I extracted this from NGK web page: "...Another consideration that should be taken into account is the extent of any modifications that you may have made to the engine. As an example, when you raise compression or add forced induction (a turbo system, nitrous or supercharger kit) you must reduce the gap (about .004" for every 50 hp you add). However, when you add a high power ignition system (such as those offered by MSD, Crane, Nology) you can open the gap from .002-.005".
..."

That means I'm going the wrong way, I should reduce the gap to 0.040" instead of increase it to 0.047"

Edit 3: now 0.039" and its better, I think I'll close the gap a little more

My '91 B13 DE has N/A high compression JDM motor, bought plugs and they are pre-gapped for ~0.045". Seems large - any recommendations?

Current plugs are toast, just worn (NGK-R's). Notable engine is running rough at idle, even stays at 800-900 rpm but isn't smooth as everywhere else.

thx in advance
