HCR sr20de build dyno runs.

173.21 HP 136.13 Tq --------169.93 HP 134.86 Tq

Had my car dynod today. I am happy with the results, but I think I can squeeze more out of it. Everyone give me your input.

These runs were with my cam gears set at +2 int, 0 exh.
I have a 2.25" collecter header into a 3" exhaust.
Brian Crower Stage 3 cams s&r
JWT ECU

I have a SSAC with the 2.5" collecter that should be here this week as well.
The reason I have a 3" exhaust is because I obtained it cheap enough to make it worth my while over paying $400+ for a 2.5" piping kit. Still I am wondering whether the 3" helps or detracts as compared to my 2.25" exh.
Does anyone know more about this? My theory is that with the larger exhaust, I might get the same gains as with the smaller, yet not have to retard my exhaust cam as much due to the freer flowing exhaust already helping add to the scavenging effect.

Does anyone have any input on cam gear settings for me? I am thinking of trying +3 int, -1 exhaust.

If you did some research, you'd see that to get 200+hp on a NA sr20de is a task that requires a bit of dyno time and tuning.
If you want cheap power go turbo. The NA route is for people who have time and money and just want to have fun building a motor.

na build

It's cool too see some dyno results there. Did you try bumping the rev limiter up at all it seems like your power curve never dropped off. What kind of ignition are you running and what fuel? Good luck with your build looks good.

If you don't do anything too radical, a turbo shouldn't require too much maintenence or upkeep, but if you want to learn, build your own NA. Once it starts up and runs great, you have a real feeling of accomplishment.

Search before you ask any questions about how to build it or what to do though. There are many threads in the All motor forum of this and the dash to keep you occupied and learning for a while.

I am running +3, -3. My gears are the CS gears that are in 1* increments. I am hoping to dyno tomorrow, but my SSAC header still isn't here, and the shop might not be able to squeeze me in.

robchaos19,
I have the same exaust setup on my 93NX JDM project, I will be watching your thread.
I have researched the 3" verus 2.5" exhaust question myself and have found that for most N/A applications 3" is over kill.
At least we are ready for that ever so tempting turbo.
Best of luck.
Ed

New dyno! Significant increase in Tq (+10), minor increase in HP (+2).

Cam gears were set at +3 -3 for that one. Anyone have any further input? Should I advance the intake gear any more then it is?
From my understanding, when I tighten the lobes and set more overlap, that is really only going to affect my Tq, and not the HP. Correct?

Hopefuly when I finally get that 2.5" ssac header next weak that will push me up over 180 HP, and I also have an SAFC on the way that I just bought yesterday.
More dynos coming in the next week or two!

I bet you're over 180 now if it'd run till peak power. It's still building good at the cutoff point. Run it past peak hp and see what it does.

p.s. You're getting me all excited now. I've got more in store for mine and was wondering if I'd make 200. Looks like it will if you getting close too. Thanks for posting the charts.

for some reason their graph cuts off at 7k. They are emailing me the files with the dyno runs so I will try and rehost once I have a better graph.

For some reason, even on the dynojet run file the graphs still cut off at 7K, if someone can tell me how to fix that I'd appreciate it. Anyways here is a cap of my best dyno run from my first dyno,
and my best dyno run from my most recent dyno.

Even though I only had a peak gain of 10 Tq and 2 HP, if you look at the graph, between about 4.5K to 6K RPM I had a total gain of 15-20 WHP and 12-15 Ft/Lb of TQ. I think that is pretty impressive. I still think that my peak HP would be higher if they could figure out how to get the graph to go past 7K. Does anyone think that I could benefit from even more overlap, or should I leave it as is?

Next dyno will be coming in 11 days! My SAFC is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, and my ssac will hopefully be here sometime next week, and if not, I will be able to borrow someone elses and just give them mine when it comes in.
