i wouldnt touch an oem de gasket. the composite is garbage. the VE head gasket is the hot ticket.

to everyone posting in this thread who is new i request you do a small search in the all motor section on thread that have been started in the past couple months. mainly the ones started by "robchaos19"

NA builds are the new hot ticket. they cost about the same as a turbo setup with an untouched engine however i feel they are better and here is why.

building a high comp engine is (in a nut shell) completely rebuilding an engine........making it brand new, resealing it, while making it much more efficient in the process. your not slapping a 100+ HP maker on an engine leaking everything known to man. also your not adding a bunch of crap.

amen to n/a builds!!!!

not as fast as turbo setups but very reliable...

its good to know bc cams are good ive always heard that jwt cams are best...

but ive been searching the forum with info regarding the c series cams but not too much is out there......i understand that these are mostly competition and do require there own set of springs and retainers...how do these add up as far as reliability and rev.....does anyone use stand alone computers like haltech?

ive been searching the forum for about 6days now and trying to soak everything
up....man its alot ......i want to build an n/a motor that can rev high and be reliable.....

ive read robchaos' thread....how reliable is your motor,is it a daily driver....what rev do you make power to?

thanks for all the info guys im getting ready to start the build soon

not to thread jack, but what will your power goals be? anything under 350 estimated HP SHOULD be ok with OEM bolts but dont quote me on that.
^That is sh*ity.........I guess I will give them a call when the time comes.

head work would not be a must, but would be a major plus. it would be as reliable as a stock motor with stock internals .

brian crower stage 3 cams with a spring and retainer kit is good to like 8200-8500 from what ive heard, they wont make power that high though.

absolutely not, usdm or jdm stock compression (9:5:1) is great for turbo you do not want to run high compression pistons in a turbo application.

stratton.
^I think it's 11:8:1

hey sry guys i just got back from virginia but i read the post i already have got all my parts minus the nitrous kit so considering i could have saved alot of money on parts by buying ve pistons and using stock rods i really just wanted to build a completly bullet proof engine from the ground up of course a good tune is always needed for this to happen we all know u can have the best parts but without a good tune u best kiss ur expensive parts good bye!

im really not a fan of forged internals for street cars to be honest. forged parts have different heat expansion properties and tend to slap around for the first few minutes and that really bothers me. the sr16 pistons are a goos 11.5:1 compression or so, and are prepped with swain like coatings on the dome and skirts. if possible i would highly recommend you return the after market pistons and slap a set of ve's in there.

This sounds like a good build with the SR16 pistons, but I am not sure about the juice on the motor? I would rather just keep it N/A and go with the JWT cams. The guy who designed them is one of the top cam designers in the world, and even has his own nick name: The Cam genius! HAHAHAH!

Spot on. If you wanna run the happy juice then a metal gasket is the way to go.
