cams

I work for nissan and we just got the first version of the nismo motorsports catalog as i was going through it i found that the euro cams have less lift and duration as the s3 cams and i am getting sweet gains with the euro cams. Would anyone w the s3 cams tell me the 1/4 mile times before and after the cams along w/other mods

well, all depends on the mods to your motor.... in standard bolt-on, NA style, I think the S3's have dynoed to a ~12-15whp gain on the 95+ motors.

Yeah i also got my S3 cams from the group deal yesterday. I'm putting them in on Sunday and probably going to the track on wednesday. Last time i went i ran a 16.1 @ 87 with average driving and my 91 se-r being stock. Since than i've added a p.r. cold air intake, 2.5" custom cat-back exhaust, Gen5 hotshot header, b&m short throw shifter, and i'll have my S3's in also. I'm hoping for low 15's on street tires. If i run in the 14's that'd be a dream come true, its very possible i think. Well anyways i'll post my times, won't be that specific aboutthe cams but it might help.

Later

nice 12-15 hp at the wheels. i hope i can reach my goal of 14.5. last time i got 15.5 with inserts & advance timing. hopefully with s3, exhuast, 2 1/4 piping, short throw, and headers that i will be installing in the next two weeks ill reach my goal. well ill be disapointed if i dont reach 14s a least especially with everything i droping into it.

personally I would buy the s3's but Im not going to say why. It just caues headaches. lol

I ran a 14.8 in my 97 200sx with a full interior with S3's, UR pulleys, AEBS header, PR intake, ACT 6 puck clutch, and a greddy exhaust. O yeah I forgot to mention ON STREET TIRES. I think both sets have there high points and lows. I personally would opt for less peak HP for more tourque and smoother power band. Not to mention a better idle.

When I was NA, I ran a 15.06 with a 2.36 60', into a bigass headwind; like 25-30mph gusting. My MPH was only like 91.5 or something which I think is due to the head wind. I think in better conditions, I woulda hit 14.9 at 92-93.

This was full interior, jack and spare even, small bag of tools in the trunk cargo net; S3's, 3rd gen hotshot headers, POP, Greddy, JWT ecu.

JDM and S3's or S4's. Very civilian for daily driving and enough mid and high end grunt to stomp some antagonizers.

***heres my question to you all, i am going to be buying cams soon, i have had S3 cams before and loved em , pulled all the way to redline, and really woke my car up over its 98 dummy cams. But are the S4 cams better? I loved the lopey idle my car had with the S3 cams and i hope the idle is more rough with the S4, but besides the idle being more rough, is the lift/duration , hp gains greater on the S4?? Also they will have a wet direct port nitrous kit hooked up to work with, which cam selection is best??? i hear S4...give me your opinions/advice.........thanks

compare the lift and duration of the hks cams to the jwt's. i know toda makes cams that are similar to the jwt's.

If you like a lopey idle this is what you want!

I have been told by a very good resource that S3's are better for turbo because of there mid-range power.

I have also been told by this same resource that S4's are better for nitrous because of the higher RPM power increase.
