VE pistons in a DE block?

I am leaning more and more torwards all-motor, it seems to be more versatile, but anyway is it possible to use the sr20ve pistons in a sr20de block with DE rods? The reason i ask is if i am not mistaken most of the horsepower gain in the ve is from the high static compression, something like 11 to 1 comp/ratio. So in theory with some good cams, s-4, jun 272,etc,etc, port and polished head and the usual bolt ons you should equal the horsepower of a VE. Right? Correct me if i am wrong. VVL in the ve is just a higher lift section of the cam in the engine, so with aftermarket cams it would be as if you were in VVL all the time right? If not somebody please enlighten me.

Compression is probably accountable for less than a third of the VE's advantages over a DE. You're going in the right direction, though...

Get some pistons for a VG30DE ('91-96 300ZX, non-turbo), and use the stock rods. You will have to get the block bored and honed (from 86mm to 87mm, IIRC), and you will need a JWT ECU, set up for your cam selection and 11:1 compression ratio. They know how to tune it right, so don't screw around. I'd also want some S3 or S4 cams to make sure you're breathing well before you squeeze the go-juice, but that's personal taste.

This will give you an 11:1 static ratio, and cost quite a bit less than VE pistons. You can either get OEM or aftermarket pistons, it doesn't really matter, as long as they meet all stock dimensions and specs.
