Oh...where do I begin? I took Lee's handy dandy Hotshot header advice thread with me to do it, along with a friend of mine that likes to take apart stuff. Overall, the install took us about 3 hours. The most interesting thing about the install was the fact that I didn't have a 2nd O2 sensor hole to plug in the downpipe. I haven't moved the sensor yet to the midpipe, so I left the sensor off of it completely. I got the service engine soon light just a little bit ago. First thing after work I'm taking the car to get the sensor relocated, then that should be that.
Another thing I noted was the exhaust tone. Everyone is right about it being quite a bit more raspy and louder with the header. I like it and then I don't like it. I think I'm going to have the shop add a resonator to the midpipe as well as moving the sensor.
Power gains? Well, needless to say, I really did feel a butt dyno improvement in power. I've already talked to the local dyno shop and the owner has time all this week to do some pulls with my car. I can't wait to see the results.
Other than that, it was kinda of a PITA, but that's to be expected. I didn't **** anything up too bad other than putting a few scratches on the header from us trying to tighten the top bolts from where the top of the header meets the bottom. PITA!!!
Hope to have a few silly pics up by tomorrow afternoon and the dyno results by the end of the week, and the quarter mile improvement by Friday night. Thanks for reading everyone.
BTW: Hotshot gave me both gaskets needed plus the copper gasket for the top and bottom part of the header. I did have an exhaust leak at first, but tightened a few more bolts and it was gone.
I also wanted to note that the packaging and the fit and finish to the Hotshot header was superb! Better than I had imagined, very nice and I hope I can keep it that way for awile. Too bad I didn't try Pacesetter for the price and to see the quality first hand. Oh well.
LoL Bro sounds like quite a trip. Hmm not to take away from your thread but will I have the same problem with my car, with the o2 sensor? Or is that just on B15? I always thought this was sort of an easy install from what I have heard.
Man thats cool. I thought that was what he was talking about but I must have been dazing, not paying attention. I like the headers too and would love to get one, I just don't love the price.
BTW its funny the people who spell the name correctly...Chrono instead of Crono..they must have played my game!
Under $300? Try under $200. The black one is under two, the "armor coat" one (ceramic paint) is about $240-ish, and the stainless ("Kombat") is somewhere in between. Great buy, especially if you're in good with a welder...
By the way, Chrono is a pretty common word. It pops up in short and long forms in lots of places. What's this about a game?
Yes I know. It is a term for "time." It was a videogame from around 1995 for the SNES made by the creators of Final Fantasy, named "Chrono Trigger," a game where you traveled through time to try to prevent world destruction in GASP 1999. Great game, had a sequel for PS1 that was almost as good. Anyone who like RPGs should check it out.
Originally posted by CowboyDren How do you like the sound, Marvin?
I'm kinda weary of it actually Jon. It drones a little too much for my taste. I mean, it sounds MEAN as hell at WOT and dropping gears, but it can and will probably get annoying. I need a "high flow" resonator. The two that I saw at the shop had, I think, a louvered core, which to me would be really bad for flow. I just want to muffle the sound a bit without losing performance.
BTW: Off topic, but I loved Chrono Trigger as I still own the game back at my mom's place with a SNES and a few other great titles.
It is indeed a cast iron exhaust manifold (headers are generally made of pipe, manifolds are generally cast), it just happens to have a close-coupled catalytic converter attached to it. Most cars (especially four cylinders) have them these days.
IIRC, '00+ Sentras are not ULEV, but are very close. The CA edition (QG18DE[c]) is SULEV, though, and I think it has three cats and a five-wire O2 sensor.
I know this might be silly, but do you have a stock muffler still? from what I saw in your webpage you did. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, it will make your header sound a lot raspier and give it more drone. I have a Greddy SP and there is no drone and light raspiness. I think the HS headers sound great. ANd I don't care for loud cars.

Marvin, I'd start with a Magnaflow 14415 (2.25" I/O, 4" round, 14" core), or simply call Scott at Stromung and ask about pricing on a stainless resonator. IIRC, a 22" resonator (maybe it was even 24"?) will fit, because Scott has fitted them upon special request before. Neither one is going to be cheap, but you simply must have the biggest that will fit if noise is a problem for you.
