JDM Motor

Hey guys what's up! I just got my JDM motor and just wanted to know a couple of things. Can I use the intake manifold of the Japan motor and the exhaust manifold. Also, I notice that the Japan manifold doesn't have an oxygen sensor, should I tap one in? If not will it mess with the way the car runs?

If you have emissions tests in your area, you might want to use the USDM intake manifold, as the J-spec won't have EGR equipment. As far as the exhaust manifold, which one is it? Is it a stock, cast manifold, or like a header? If it's the cast one, put your stock one back on, if it's like a header you will have to get an exhaust shop to make it fit the rest of your exhaust system, or put your stock one on if you're trying to keep costs low.

The exhaust manifold looks like a header. but will the U.S. down pipe fit on the JDM manifold? will the car run fine without a oxygen sensor? should I tap one in? or should I just leave the JDM intake and exhaust manifold the way it is?

The USDM downpipe will not bolt up to this header. You could get an exhasut shop to make it fit and tap the O2 sensor for a reasonable cost. If you're not on a limited budget, now would probably be the time to install a header. If you are not going to get a header the i'd say get the JDM heade hooked up, it should be worth a horse or two, might as well they don't have mcuh of a resale value

How much did the motor cost and where did u get it from??? was it the entire motor with pullyies and alternator and starter what came with it...how many horses does the JDM have over the usa model and can u put the hot shot headers on the JDM motor and have all your sensors???? how reliable is the JDM motor???

Ahe-ahem:
  1. That's a good thing to use the Search feature for.
  2. Usually, yes.
  3. Practically none, except that the JDM engine has fewer emissions gear parts, like no EGR (required in some states, noted above).
  4. Yes and yes. Or any other header, for that matter (OBX, Pacesetter, Stillen, et cetera). I think the JDM intake with a header would be ideal for simplicity's sake.
  5. No less reliable than a USDM engine, except that most importers prefer to sell 30k-40k mile (or fewer) engines, so in your case, you'd easily lose 60-70k miles of wear.
On the other hand, you also have a low-port engine, whereas most JDM engines are high-port, so it's not 100% plug'n'play for you. Try looking for the JDM/200SX thread, as this applies more directly to you ('94 was the first year of the low-port engine, by the way).

you are mistaken Fastnx, the USDM secondary WILL bolt up directly to the JDM primaries, but the secondary is a little long and not "bent" correctly-it hangs like an inch or two where the 2secondary pipes merge to one-, which a muffler shop can fix. cheap upgrade w/ a JDM touch....75 bucks+shipping it you want it.
