Well if its a se-r your halfway there. But to answer your question yes you can make anything fast $$$$$$$$$$$$$$! O.K if you stick to trying to make your car fast and avoid all the dress up shizz youll be good to go. Start w/a kn filter and a intake, pulleys, header.high flow cat back exhaust,to start. And if you want to do body kits make sure the parts r lighter than stock.Or you can go the gut route, pull out your carpet and remove all the sound deadner all trim peices,a/c,heat, this is the extreme(this is to route i took). You can make it faster by lightening it and unleashing all the power held back by stock restrictive parts

I have a automatic 95 SE-R and it is slow as sh*t. Good thing it is not my daily driver. I think there is something wrong with it. Its quarter mile time is got to be in the mid 19's. It is just pathetic. I am not joking around..I love the look of the car but the speed sucks... I hope yours is better!!!!!

As was mentioned anything is possible with enough money!

ALLMOTORSENTRA gave you pretty much all of the advies I was going to give you. Another thing I would like to add is working on your tranny itself. I do not know if there is a torque converter avaiable for your tranny but it's worth a try. The TQ converter for the B15 Sentra is supposed to drop your 1/4 time by a good chunk, for around $500.

Another thing you might consider is getting s shift kit for your auto tranny. This will allow you to choose when to change grears (Like a stick). Again this is going to run you some serious $$$. You could also shift you tranny yourself, but that is not reccomemded. Some people say you can do it if you have a tranny cooler, but I think it's an all around bad idea!

Check out Level 10 for information on the transmissions products I just mentioned.

Auto Nissans

I test drove an automatic se-r. I hated it. Nissan doesn't make a good auto. If you can't drive stick and want to keep the auto you have, for some reason...why not just leave it be and do a K&N drop in and some headers. Although I know those autos drone like hell with mods. (Hint Hint, sell it and get a stick classic, you will thank me)

Well my plan was to do a motor swap.(SR20VE) Then maybe find a shift kit or something. So I was just trying to make a fast auto...........I have invested too much effort and time in my car to get rid of it. So I think I will stick with it.do the motor swap and try to find a shift kit. Are there any recommendations to where I can get one? Thanks for the replies.......

I have the Level 10 complete trans rebuild.

- High pressure pump
- Reworked valve body
- New clutch packs with high performance friction material
- High stall converter (~3200rpm)

It has transformed the car. Performance off the line is amazing. It howls the tires completely through low gear at 6.5# boost. You should be able to break the tires free from a standstill NA.

you gotta think though automatic's hold boost through gears better than standard transmission cars. i rode in a 600+ hp supra that was an automatic- ran 10.8 , it was amaaaaaaaaazing.

If your a boost freak auto could be the way to go <shrug>

yeah, I can live with it though, since I'm one of those turbo freaks. I ran a 16.697@80.63mph with just CAI and a real crappy 2.5" crush bent exhaust, magnecor plug wires too(dont count for anything). I am working on a turbo GA16DE 94' LE this winter break(my new car, got it for free, ), and then I will start work on the 2001 again sometime next year or the year after. The 2001's tranny sucks, at least on the sr20de motor, it shifts sooo damn slow, I mean when I was running the nitrous you could hear only nitrous spraying for easily half a second to a second before the next gear kicked in, still ran a 15.5, down from a 17.2 all motor the pass before.
JCC

P.S. the best way to go is to get the ProTorque/Level10 torque converter modification and then the Level10 or Maximum Tuning Valve Body recalibration, that should get you right next to the manuals.

Americans no a thing or three about making automatics fast, so from the Neon world I'll give you some pointers.

First, all non-performance automatic cars are LAZY off the line. The easiest and cheapest way to fix this is nitrous oxide. It's not uncommon for automatic cars to get easy 2.2's and lower 60ft times with stock tires, as the power comes on more smoothly compared to a stick car which tend to shock the tires into breaking traction off the line.

Now if you don't want to use nitrous, again I would consider it. I makes the biggest difference in ET's on an automatic car. There's no other way your going to drop 2 seconds off your ET from bolt-ons and engine work alone. If you want to do it N/A you'll need to get a higher stall torque converter, shorter final drive ratio and higher mutlipier for your tranfer gear.

Look for heavier cars that use the same engine or same transmission the Sentra does. Heavier cars with the same engine usually don't make more power, but to help move the weight, they usually put shorter gearing in the car. I think the Alitma uses the same tranny doesn't it? It's a heavier car, so it should have a different final drive ratio.

Next you'll need a more aggressive shifting valvebody. By raising line pressure you can quicken the shifts as automatics tends to shift slowly and softly for the sake of confort with in-town driving. If valvebodies from a more performmace orenited car is avaliable then use that, or contact Level 10.

For a torque converter, you can contact your local transmission shop to see if they can locate a shop that custom builds converters. If not JBO or Level 10 and another company that runs ads in Turbo Magazine can help you.

If you can't find a shorter gear ratio, you can use shorter tires, like BFG's 205/50-14, which are a full inch shorter than the tires you usually find on compacts. That effectively raises your gear ratio.

In engine tuning you might wanna be a bit bias to torque. Automatic cars never run the trap speeds manual cars do, so what you need to do is outpower people in the 1st 1/8 and then hold them off the rest of the way.

My friend Manuel has a automatic 2000 Neon. He could only muster high 16's in the 1/4 mile with mildy bolt-ons. After adding a 3000rpm stall torque converter, 1:2 ratio transfer gear and changing the final drive to 3.05, combined with 205/50-14 BFG drag radials gave us a ratio around 4.00 or so.

With a 50hp shot of nitrous and about 75lbs taken out of the car he went 14.89@92 with a 2.0 60ft time. He got a 1.9 later that day but the bottle was running out so he went slower. Sometime early next year, we should run low 14's with a 75hp shot, ported head and Crane camshaft.

You have your work cut-out for you, maybe that's why alot of Neon owners have made the Auto to Manual swap popular.

So everybody knew you had the bottle huh? Well with Manuel's and Nick's Automatic Neons they launch off the line under the bottle. The car(s) just leaves harder than most compacts and it sounds the same, albit a bit slower and quieter. With the nitrous off the line, the engine spins faster and the exhaust tone is a bit louder, but nobody knows really. It's really funny too....

I don't think people expect a kitted up automatic Neon to run so quickly..

if you are planing to stay n/a
get a torque converter with hi stall
and valve body upgrade
that will be everything you need
and it will knock off 1-1.5 sec off your 1/4

Have any of you ever done the valve body upgrade thing? How hard is it and how much does it cost?

Have you done it yourself? IF so can you give details on what has to be done. I will be changing the filter and fluid soon and might do the mod while I am at it.
