Real 10:1 motors are pretty rare, and cost considerably more than $500, if you can find one. Most JDM engines are 9.5:1, just like US blocks, but are a great idea anyway. With a JDM engine, you're getting a high-port head, most of the stuff you need to get it running, and you still have the low-port engine installed and running while you get the machine work done to the JDM engine. Send it off to JWT, and get it done:
11:1 compression, using VG30DE pistons with the domes shaved off (requires block machine work).
Whatever headwork you like, from a simple Extrude Hone to a DPR Stage-VI.
S4 or C1 cams, go ahead and get the JWT valvetrain upgrades even with S4s.
JWT-upgraded ECU with 11:1 and cam idle improvements, skip the rev limiter.
With the rest of the bolt-ons, you should make a pretty considerable amount of power. Mike Kojima with a low-port DPR Stage-VI head and IIRC C1 cams made over 160 WHP with this setup.

If you bought an ECU from JWT, they'll explain how it's done. Otherwise, you might try sniffing around on this board for others that have put JDM engines in B14s.

I do agree that they are a little rare but down here in sofla we get them for the same prices as the JDM 9.5:1 which is about $500. The ones we get are the UK red Valve cover motors which are 10:1.
