How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

I am contemplating running my AEBS through a J whitley test pipe, through a Courtesy Nissan B pipe to teh stock muffler. For Track Days I would just unbolt the muffler. WOuld this muffler severely choke the C2's?

Click on dynos.
Both of these were with the stock b-pipe. I hope to dyno again with the courtesy b-pipe.

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

Im not able to view those dyno graphs as i think they've been removed.
Anyhow has anyone experimented using a dyno if the rear muffler actually chokes exhuast flow rate much once above 6000rpm?

Would replacing the mid pipe while keeping the stock muffler gain if anything at all?

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

I would Like to know this too...Im planning on running OEM MUFFLER with a QTEC exhaust Cut for performance...but how much power does it kill if anyone has tried it or knows?

Tickets are getting bad here and they just stop you if they see any chrome muffler even if your not loud so im going oem. :s

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

I am also running the AEBS with the stock catback. No cams, just a CAI. I dont really think it hurts too much to feel a difference, but I too would like to know.

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

The weird thing i dont really understand is the fact that my mate's car is a stock N14 Pulsar SSS (sr20de) and his only mods are ghetto airbox mod, k&n Panel, 19 deg timing using 98 oct fuel and he managed 120 HP atw - using a standard factory sr20 rear muffler

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

i believe that the stock exhausts were continuously changing through the b13's production and that some cars see a great gain from an aftermarket exhaust while others it is barely noticable. And to make matters more confusing i dont believe there is any trend to identifying which stock exhaust you have.

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

I did not dyno before and after, but when I went from the stock exhaust to the GReddy, I noticed a good difference above 6000 RPM, and at the time it was the only mod.

Re: How restrictive is the Stock Muffler

I have header, Courtesy-B pipe, and sometimes bolt up my stock muffler.

The stock muffler feels like it sucks a good 10hp out of my car I have wanted to experiment with bolting up a Maxima Variable Muffler.

That might explain why my 94 has Mandrel bent piping stock. I've looked under there plenty of times to know and have been meaning to ask, but didn't want to sound newbish.

I currently have a Gen1 or 2 HS header, cat, and stock back. I don't want to do anything with the exhaust until I get my VE, but at the same time wonder if it's worth gutting the stock muffler. That, or just spending $50 to get a coffee can put on. I know I have a good 5-6 horseys waiting to come out.

Opinions? Ideas?

Less restrictive that aftermarket piping/mufflers for sure. Yesterday my friend and I put a dealer midpipe and muffler on his NX in place of an old aftermarket system. We noticed the dealer piping was much smoother and larger. The car revs better past 6000RPM too.

I cant seem to find a cut-away of a stock sr20 muffler anywhere on the net.
It would be good to actually see how many baffles and chambers are used for the deadening/flow process.
