I agree, get the VE. Although unless your doing the swap yourself your going to need more than 3K. You can add to the VE and get much more hp than adding all of the other stuff on to the DE. If your not all motor crazy, get a snail! Same amout of $ more whp.
I have to disagree on the VE. I mean, I love it as much as the next man. BUT imagine all the tuning and the headache you will get if you have to purchase replacement stuf for it. I just dont have the time and money. But if YOU DO, then go for it!!!
I would try to SQUEEZE in some suspension stuff too.

In defense of the VE the only tems that would be hard to get would be the activation selinoids. The rest is all pretty much standard de stuff. If you have a specific item in mind let me know and I will let you know how hard it would be to get.
what kind of gains can you get from port and polish head on a all motor setup w/ cams, intake, header, exhaust, ignition upgrade, pulley set, ecu, ect.. is it worth it? like to know your opinions..

I think most of this is covered on SE-R.net, I can't remember all the numbers but I'm pretty sure it is there. Even better there are several dyno runs posted for the same car in various states of tune. You can pretty much see what each mod will give you.
I think ultimately only you can say if it is worth it. It really depends on what you want in the end. 160WHP? You can get there with $3k and a DE. 175 WHP? You'll need the VE to do it for $3k. 200 WHP? DET swap for around $3k.
All of these are doable with $3k if you take your time shopping and do a lot of the work yourself. Of course if you want 200whp from a DE, double your budget
