To this day (to my knowledge) no one has done this. It can be done (as per Mike Kojima) but it would cost a pretty penny in machining. JWT is supposedly working on a stroker kit that would be less money. You know how long that could take. Andreas does not normally stroke his cars. He puts bigger pistons in a sleeved block. As an interesting aside. The famous 300hp Touring Car Championship motor was destroked and larger pistons put in to deshroud the valves a little and improve breathing at high rpm.
With sleeved block and 90mm pistons the motor size is about 2.185 L. The cost to do this is $700 for pistons and rings and about $1000 for sleeving the block. Total $1700. My setup is better in price and keeps the same RPM potential and rev speed of the original motor. Also my setup deshrouds the valves for superior breathing. With my setup you do not need to get rods unless you will be using NOS.
If you go with a bigger crank you will get the same HP but your peak HP will be lower, you will not get the same breathing up top as my setup and the motor will rev slower. With this setup you will have to get a Crank, Pistons and depending on what you want to do rods.
My setup has a better Rod Ratio, better valve breathing capability, and costs less. Also 6 mm xtra crank 86 to 92 mm is about the same size engine as just 4 mm more piston 86 to 90mm.
As for BTCC SR20s go the reason why they run bigger pistons is because it deshrouds the valve from the cylinder wall and they can also run bigger valves for better breathing. Also they go with a smaller crank to get better breathing higher up in the RPM. If I had the xtra money to spend I would build a motor with a 80mm crank and a 90mm piston. This would be the motor of my choice. Maybe run some cams with a 300-304 degree duration.
Remeber there is a replacement for displacement and that is higher RPM potential.
the SR16VE crank would work as well to destroke your motor. you would still need some sort of mech lifter valvetrain to take advantage of higher revs anyway. the BTCC cars use a 54C block and head, btw.
