: GT28R vs. GT28RS
g20ps 01-02-2005, 12:57 PM I've been looking around, but can't seem to find the answer to this question- what's the difference between the GT28R and the GT28RS? Sorry if it's right in front of me somewhere, I've been out of the game for a while, but now I'm back! Thanks
daveracer 01-02-2005, 01:03 PM www.atpturbo.com has full descriptions of both.
NX$paniard 01-02-2005, 01:09 PM Wow you have been gone for a while. I remember back when I first started thinkin about goin turbo I talked to you about buying a GT3037......
Anyway the difference is
GT28RS: Good for 350 hp
Turbine
-Wheel: 53.85mm w/ 76 trim
-Housing: .64 or .86 ar
Compressor
-Wheel: 60mm w/ 62 trim
-Housing: .60 ar
GT28R: Good for 310 hp
Turbine
-Wheel: 53mm w/ 62 trim
-Housing: .64 ar
Compressor
-Wheel: 60mm w/ 60 trim
-Housing: .60 ar
small difference in trim of the wheels basically gives the RS better flow charactereistics for our motors. The 28RS is the "Disco Potato" if you recall....
g20ps 01-02-2005, 04:25 PM Hey thanks a lot. Ya NX$paniard, I was gone for a couple of years and just got back a few weeks ago. Did you ever go with the GTBB37 or something else?

I ended up getting a Garrett GT30R.
If the Group Buy deal doesnt work for ya,
Call Terry Vincent @ FTF Motorsports or Jamie Landry @ PowerTech Imports
chimmike 01-02-2005, 06:25 PM Jamie at powertech will hook ya up with whatever turbo you choose.
Thomas Reynolds 01-02-2005, 07:25 PM you can get one from the groupbuy section for $950 from greg v i beleive
That's not a groupbuy from Greg Vogel. That's his EVERYDAY price!!
daveracer 01-02-2005, 09:03 PM I bought a GT2871R (it's a little better than the GT28RS, but looks the same), for $995. Get in contact with Jay Hass.

IIRC youre gonna run that on a gtir manifold. I have a GT2835R on a gtir :biggthump Too bad mines not shiny like yours.

Hehehe, yes, mines nice and shiny. Quite nice for a manifold only used 1000 miles and coated like that. Got it for pretty cheap too.

but its in the groupbuy section.... :squint:
javierb14 01-02-2005, 11:22 PM fwiw, last week we threw a GT2871R (.82 T3 flanged turbine housing external gate) on a hatch with a GSR motor ( 1.8L stock motor, head gasket and studs) last week. the throttle response is nice...during 4th gear WOT runs, we would see full boost around 3500rpm (10-11psi). this turbo will support 400whp :D
g20ps 01-03-2005, 06:34 PM how long will a stock tranny last with the Disco Potatoe? I know, it all depends on how you drive it, but if you're pretty carefull, will she be allright with 300whp?
