i am throwing a code saying coolant temp sensor. periodically (it's happened twice) my car will die when idling and have trouble starting back. i saw a pic of the location of the ects on a ga16, wondering if it's in the same place on my sr. anyone point me in the right direction? also, anything i may want to look for or check or any pointers on changing the sensor is greatly appreciated. thanks- jeff

the coolant temp sensor is right next to the engine temp sending unit that goes to the gauge in the cabin. its right by the oil filter on the sr20. to take it off its easier to brake off the electrical tip and use a socket to take it out. to put the new one is a lot easier and you can use your hand then then tighten it with anything else that you can.

you can just use a medium i think it is a 19mm socket and a swivel. no need to break anything or hack anything back together to tighten it

yeah you have to use the right depth socket, cant use one too shallow or too deep, and swivel, and an extention, make sure the car is cooled down too, just a lil hint

i was able to fit a certain edged socket in there but i didnt have the right size or else i wouldnt have had to break the sensor.

i did this on monday. i had to go to autozone cause orielly gave me the wrong part, and i did have to break off the plug to get my socket on. after that it was super easy. the weird thing was, i could get a regular wrench around it to get the old one off, but once i got the new one threaded hand tight, i was able to get a box end wrench around it. crazy. anyway, thanks for yall's help, really made things go alot smoother. the cel still hasn't gone off, but i am hoping it needs to cycle a little bit, and there isn't another code being thrown. thanks again- jeff :biggthump
