Are all the parts in a 2.0 SE-R compatible with the Jap Spec Blue Bird engine? (except the ECU) Because I was thinking it might be easier/cheaper to buy a 2.0 SE-R, the whole car, buy the blue bird engine and JWT ECU for my 1.6L XE. Swap everything on my 1.6L XE for everything on the 2.0 SE-R. Which would turn the SE-R to 1.6L, then instead of putting the 2.0 SE-R engine in my XE, put the Blue bird in its place. So basically I would have everything on the 2.0 except the orginal SE-R ECU and the SE-R Engine with the blue bird. Sell the 2.0 SE-R engine and the orginal SE-R ECU I have left over. Also sell the former SE-R now a 1.6. Would that work? I was also curious to know if the jap engine will pass our E-Check?

Why don't you just buy the SE-R, and buy the BB SR20DE. Then, swap the BB DET in for the SR20DE. Sell the SR20 motor.

Then, sell the 1.6 in original condition once you get the BB DET powered SE-R running.

One reason is that you are not gonna get squat if you try to sell a 1.6L SE-R. Plus, your way adds in the cost of 2 swaps rather than the cost of one swap like my way.

If the idea is to have a car that was formerly a 1.6 and turn it into a BB DET powered sleeper, it would be cheaper just to get the BB motor and do the swap. You don't need to buy a whole different SE-R simply for parts unless it is junked and you get a great deal on it ($500 or less for the whole car). It is a REALLY bad idea to swap a 1.6 into the SE-R, especially if you are going to sell it.

Okay, well if the idea is to keep the body of the car you've already made into show car quality, then it is still cheaper to just buy the BB DET and swap it in.

The only problem is I need tranny, exhaust with exhast manifold, wire harnesses, motor mounts, hubs, all - wheel disc brake system, ECU tray mount, radiator, power steering hose, etc..... which all adds up to about $5,000 after all is said and done with the BB engine and JWT ECU so why dont I find a beat up SE-R that some one is selling for about 1,000-1,600 which has all the parts I need strip of all the parts and turn around and sell it to some dude or old guy who couldnt give a damn about the 2.0 engine cause he dont now what the difference between an SE-R engine from XE engine for some cash?
So will it pass the E-Check or not?

I know what you need an how much it costs. If you didn't see my sig, I have already had the swap done in my 93 XE with the N/A SR20.

Just buy the beat up SE-R and use it as a parts car then. That is a fine idea, but don't try to swap the 1.6 in it and sell it to somebody. You would be selling them a total lemon. First of all, you would be selling them a pretty beat up car, if you bought it for $1000. Secondly, it is a lot of work to swap it into the 2.0 car. You are creating much more work for yourself. Remember, the 2.0 doesn't simply bolt into the XE, and vice versa.

You would probably get more selling the GA16 engine and tranny alone than trying to sell a car without the original engine.

It sounds like you are already set in what you are going to do though, so go ahead and do it.

Also, you don't need the exhaust manifold from an SR20DE. You will be using the exhaust manifold from the SR20DET. It is a totally different desgin than the SR20DE to accomodate the turbo. You will need an exhaust, though.

ECU tray mount? What is that? Is it the bracket that the ECU bolts into? That is nothing. I can give you one of those for free.

Motor mounts don't swap over. You wouldn't need the SE-R motor mounts. You would need the SE-R crossmember.

The hubs are the same for XE and SE-R. The axles are different.

Anyways, good luck with the project.

BTW, do you have pics of your XE? I'd like to see it. Thanks.

hey there...i am planning on swaping the sr20det into my 93xe as well....i am about to get the exterior fixed for free; a whole professional paintjob for free thanks to a deer and durango that hit me. It didnt do anything to the frame as i already had that checked...THANK GOD...but this isnt an easy swap by anymeans but i am ready for the challenge and i figure i might as well do the swap into this car instead of buying a new one since the interior and exterior are going to be perfect. All i need is the heart transplant. :) and if you want pics of my car http://www.printroom.com/ViewAlbum.asp?userid=blairellis&album_id=37614go there. I plan to keep this a sleeper and not do anything drastic to it.
