Hey guys/gals,
I have a single 12" subwoofer box in my trunk. I am having a problem with the box sliding around. Actually, the carpet is sliping from the weight of the box and physics... I've come to the conclusion that the carpet needs to be held in place and the box won't slide. I've already tried sticking velcro to the trunk and carpet, but the velcro doesn't stick to the carpet.

Short of buying a Rear Strut Tower Bar and bolting the box to it (a la Mike Kojima's setup), is there something else I can do. I have thought of getting velcro strips sewn onto the carpet and redoing the strips on the trunk floor.

What are some options here???

Bolt an L bracket from the box to the car its self. I have a 10 in my car but I have a rear strut brace that i's bunjee corded to. :D

I have 2 L brackets holding mine down. Unfortunately I have so little room left in my trunk (I only have 1 10"though) I don't have a rear strut bar to bolt it to. :p

I bungeed my box in. The thing with the rear strut brace is that it pushes the box farther back limiting trunk space.

Anywayz... I put two handles on the back side of my box and ran bungee cords through them. I hook the bungees to the two hooks that the rear seat use to stay latched.

I had the SAME problem back when I bought the car.
I glued my carpet to a piece of cardboard that I cut out. Then I put velcro strips on the carpet/box to hold down the box so it won't slid around and its been good every since. On the occasional fast turn the box sometimes gets off the velcro and slides off but that really doesn't happen that often.

well.. i have two tens in a custom box for a classic sentra and not rear sway bar..(which i want and need!!!) so i have my box in there as far as it can go and a screw with a string tied to it in the top of the box.. i then wrapped the string around the metal bars directly under the rear dashboard by the speakers....the string moves a little when i open the trunk but other than that.. it never moves at all..

i used L-brackets on my last civic. You can use wing nuts to make it easy to remove.

epoxy????, actually what I did was make a braket and mount them facing upwards onto the rear deck, only problem is, I don't have the hinges back there anymore :(

well, I just took out that crappy cardboard trunk and got a 1/2 in. thick plywood. and made a template out of the carpet. i then cut the wood in the shape of the trunk. I then used the left over wood to make 1 inch by 1/2 inch "rails" I put the box in then bolted the "rails" to the trunk board. I painted the rails black first. My box is pretty big, and now it never slides around. I can also take it out when i want to race, without having to unscrew or untape anything! I love it!

I just strapped my 2 10" with two ratcheting tie down straps from pep boys and attached them to the place where the rear seats bolt on. Strapped it tight and now they won't even budge.

I used L-brackets on my 12" JL Audio sub. Came w/ a sealed box. Went to Home Depot and got 4 clevis pins, 4 cotter pins, and 4 L-brackets.

Took out the carpet, screwed the brackets near each corner on the left & right sides. Traced the holes of the brackets onto the cardboard and drilled them out. Came out perfectly, exactly as I planned. Each pin stradles the spare w/ less than 1/4" of play.

A clevis pin has a thin flat top (sorda like a nail) with holes drilled into the body. I slid the pin through the brackets, through slits I cut in the rug, through the holes I drilled in the cardboard, and used the cotter pins to hold the box tightly to the rug & board.

Box doesn't slide (because of spare) and IMO it looks trick. Works until the holes I drilled get worn larger. Drilled a hair smaller than the diameter of the pin. Very snug. Not hard at all, just takes longer to explain than to actually do it.
Sucks to get at the spare, disassemble the whole setup.

p.s. I can stuff sh*t all around my box if I really wanted to. And it only took 15mins.

i have an audiobahn 12" in my trunk and i used L-brackets and used nuts and bolts to fasten them in. I used the stock cardboard over the spare tire. it stays in place pretty well

Oh well, I was hoping to post a couple pics, but my scanner's acting stupid, so visualize with me. Between the rear shock towers is 32". I built my custom box exactly 32" wide with a front angle on the box identical to the slope of the front metal in trunk (or slope of rear seat). I only built it as tall as the raised section or indentation right above the pass through hole for the trunk on the right assuming you're standing behind the trunk when opened looking in. Make as deep as necessary to create the correct airspace for whatever subs that are to be installed. When you upholster the box & place it in the trunk, it should be quite snug (Mine was real snug) between the shock towers with the front edge of the box wedged under that earlier discussed raised bump on the front trunk wall. I wedged some wooden supports/blocks under the back edge of the box to support the corners if necessary & it does NOT move. When I get the scanner working again, it might shed some more light on what I'm trying to get across.

Now I do know that this will not work for everyone (especially those of you with a rear STB), but this has worked for me since my first stereo install back in June '96. The reason I use it this way is when it's time to get busy, it's real easy to drop the weight and get down to business. If I can't get the scanner working soon, I'll send the pics to someone that can post them along w/ some misc. car pics I've been wanting to post.

See you just need to upgrade to a bigger setup! :P I had a custom 2x15" sealed enclosure and that damn thing was so heavy it never thought about moving. Actually, now that I think about it... I spent way too much money on that setup and my ears ring. Maybe you shouldn't upgrade. :D
