where does the tranny case crack on the classic when running upwards of one bar of boost. I heard that u can get a new G20 tranny case and it is much stronger than SE-R case.

err...
From what I have seen.. cases crack from wheelhop... gears strip from power (rather, fatigue from power being applied over and over and over...)

never heard anything about a g20 case being stronger...

it cracks where the shifter linkage goes into the tranny, you can weld up the webbing in there and make it stronger and use one of 4-5 diffrent motor mounts out there to help on hop and to keep it from slamming around in there.

Well see i was talking to someone at Moroso that had a GTi-R in a classic SE-R and when he ran 15 psi of boost his tranny case would crack. He just strengthened his but he also said something about the G20 case

Tranny cracking has nothing to do with boost. I cracked my tranny and will be replacing it tomorrow. I guess thats what you get for drag racing on 85K miles stock motor mounts. :(

JWT mounts and all ES bushings... I've never had a cracking problem.. let alone wheel hop....

Well that somone doesn't know what he is talking about.

People have cracked their tranny case with NO boost and lots of wheelhop, and some have run 30psi with no wheelhop and not cracked their case.

See the problem in that statement?

I see the rice boys have finally started to find the SE-R. :(

tommorrow I'm going to retap the bolt holes were the motor mount goes on the tranny, and were the dog bone bolts in on the front radiator support, the f%&^ pulled right out when I dropped the pedal at the light, kind of upsetting, does any one know if the stock sr20de crank pulley will fit a gtir???

Yea it does...cause they took my stock de one to put it on another gti-r motor and it fit.

When I helped Clay McClendon do his GTi-R swap on a classic he was advised by Jay Whitley that the pulley *is different* and he couldn't use his DE one. His GTi-r was banged up pretty bad and he went to the expense of having a machine shop beat it out and fix it.

I think if the DE would have worked Clay would have gone that route. I don't remember what's different but check the SE-R archives, I just did and there are people there who say it's different also.

Good luck.

okay I'll chech, I won't be able to get a machine shop to fix it, there is a chunk missing were it hit the fender wall (this sucks)

I wasn't calling you a rice boy. The guy who told you that was an idiot. The G20 case and everything else he said is a farse.

***No. I already tried installing a set of UR SR20DE pulleys on my GTi-R and they did not fit. The GTi-R oil pump is larger, so the front cover interferes with the back of the pulley.

Also, even if you could make it fit by machining the pulley, it will still stick out too far and the timing pointer will be too far away from the edge of the pulley.

This is because the GTi-R oil pump driver gear is longer than the SR20DE. You would need a GTi-R oil pump driver gear to get the SR20DE pulley to sit flush with the front cover.

This misalignment will cause your belts to get chewed up and/or skip a rib and fall off, etc...

JWT and SR20 Development can get you a new GTi-R pulley for about $150 or so, IIRC.

thanks Jay I'll call them tommorow, is there a set of aftermarket pulleis that I could get for it instead???

Not that I know of. As for the pulley, here is an idea, since you already have a GTi-R motor. The GTi-R pulley costs around $150 or so. Well, so does an SR16VE-N1 pulley! Get the N1 pulley and the N1 oil pump. The oil pump goes for around $220-230. You can use the GTi-R oil pickup and driver gear with this mod.

This is what I did when I needed a new GTi-R crank pulley.

on my tranny were the torque mount, and the motor mount is the bolts either ripped out or the case it self actually broke around the bolt. so I think when I swap out tranny cases I will have those mounts welded on after I bolt them on. Does this sound like a good ideal, if not shoot it down, cause I don't want to f&*$ up another tranny, Thanks Jason

As for the pulley I E-mailed my freind I got the engine from and he said that he could get some aftermarket pulleys for the gtir engine so if any one is interrested I'll find out more for you.
