: KYB GR2s
eric96ser 12-11-2001, 11:09 PM My sister's '91 has the original struts, and they are beyond dead. For costs reasons, I was looking into some KYB GR2s. She doesn't need AGXs, so the money is not worth spending. Tire Rack has them for $44 and $46 each. Anyone know of a better price? Anyone have an experiences with these?
Sunny 12-11-2001, 11:34 PM i tried the KYB GR2's with Tokico spring,s and the struts lasted about a year.
if your sisters car is not lowered the GR2's should last longer as the KYB GR2's are like stock replacements

I had them on my NX for a little while (about 4k miles)... Some of it was autox time. No complaints about them, really... A good OEM replacement strut. I thought they were a little harsh, but that was because the original struts were really dead. Bought mine from the Tirerack, too... Couldn't find it cheaper anywhere; either that or I didn't look around enough.

SucKit 12-12-2001, 01:18 AM I hate them...i have them right now w/ sportlines. They are the main reason i cracked 3 of my Lenso rims. Harsh like a mother, the compression stroke is damn hard, my friends tokico set at 5 are softer than the banging you get in my car when it hits a bump.

are you sure it's not the bumpstops you're banging into?
eric96ser 12-12-2001, 09:30 AM Her car is not lowered. I've autocrossed it twice, and it was loose as hell. While driving it on the street, I don't feel confedent taking corners at any good speed. Maybe its the ST rear bar causing this, but I'm willing to bet its the dead and burried struts.
SucKit 12-12-2001, 10:56 AM Tell you the truth they are worth the money. I dont think your sis's car would have a problem since she isnt lowered. But they are harsh shocks ***. They arernt too bad with the handlin department... i can take decent turns but it doesnt compare to my brothers car or the type r. They both have soft comfortable suspension that manage to take this turn 15mph more than me, part of the reason maybe it oversteers like crazy. Im sure its not the bumpstops cause even little bumps hit hard.

Well... You shouldn't be using the GR-2's with Eibach Sportlines. The GR-2's weren't valved to handle aftermarket lowering springs. You were probably bottoming out like crazy, and if you haven't worn them out already, they will be very soon.

Beat13 12-14-2001, 12:38 AM Mine are quite firm. I regret I bought them since I am going to get AGX/GC soon, but for the money they arent bad.
SucKit 12-14-2001, 02:26 AM I know for the the shocks that ive played with i can compress them by just using my stomach to push them down, tokico and Kyb's Gr-2 for a supra. The GR-2's for a Sentra on the other hand just wont go down, barely even with my body weight. Poor gauging of how hard the compression stroke is but its more than firm.
eric96ser 12-14-2001, 12:50 PM I went ahead and ordered them today. $199.54 for all 4 with shipping.
MaddMatt 12-14-2001, 01:45 PM Got those shocks on my Eclipse. Good shocks. They've served me well for 5 years, 3 of those autocrossing.
