I plan on getting a f-max turbokit cause I have basically heard alot of good things about them also I can upgrade with it later on. My question is this I want madd boost what type turbo should I get I really don't care about lag cause I have the nos to compensate that. I pretty much don't want to spend no more than $6,000.00 any suggestions???? thanks

reserach it, if you want big power, I would go for a big ass Jay Hass turbo. iirc he was running a .60 inlet and a .82 a/r and am unsure on everything else. any input??

How much power do you want to make. Bottom line.

Thanks for the post. I have checked the old post and all but I want to know what would be the best with the mods that I have on my car. As far as turbos go everyone has there goals and mine is as much as my engine can take. I plan on later on have a built motor to work with the turbo. I have been doin research for about a year talking with chris at sr20developement he was very helpful, but the people at fmax they pretty much just said when you plan to buy one then we could work a setup for you the things is I want to know now so I know what gains I will be getting and estimate what my 1/4 mile will be with the setup and with what I have on my car now. Thanks

he said he is not worried about lag b/c he has nitrous, so I am sure he wants big power, but not too big. do you want a street car or race car is the question. and ya, to be exact, how much power do you want?

In about 4 years I want to make it just a strip car but for now it will be for street. Hopefully when my wife comes down I might buy here a car and turn my car to more strip than street. I want to be able to drive my car in the street as far as emissions go I am in Hawaii all there is are vehicle inspections. I would like to be in the 360-400+ horsepower range. I have not seen that many cars at the Hawaii Raceway park with Se-r's I am proud to say that every car that I have raced I have won but there are a few that I have not raced that are fast and of course they are hondas.

he said between 360-400 whp, but ya, that is a pretty broad diffrence in hp.

For 400whp you don't need anything but the F-Max stage-II with a .82 A/R turbine housing.

You can do that on a stock motor.

He mentioned taking it "further" that's why I asked for a max hp number.

ohhhh, ok, I took it as what can he do for now, not later.

I pretty much want the most I can get out of the fmax kit but under $5,500. The hp number where just a guestimation if I can get more power from the kit the better. I would like to be in one of the few to have my car over the 500hp ( that is the long run that will take some time) but for now I pretty much want to do as much as I can with the turbokit.
Thanks for your replies Jay haas and brian for helping me out it really means alot.

ive got the whole turbo thing down but im still trying to understand trims...what does .82 A/R mean?

400whp on stock pistons? Wouldn't he need some lower compression slugs and beefier rods? I think the crank would be fine. Someone also told me that any motor above about 550 whp should have a sleeve kit put in. I know JUN makes one. But, you have to send them your motor so they can do it. We have a S13 motor that we are sleving and planning on running about 600-650 whp...This is going in an '89 240sx. The next project is putting a RB25TT in a "93 240sx. That will start next spring.

Nope. Stock SR20DE's are laying down 395-410whp with no problems. Careful fuel management allows 24.5psi on the 9.5:1's.

My car did 409whp limited only by the tubo size and fuel injectors. I would have went for more.

The rods are the same as the DET which as far as I know the strongest stock DET has laid down 424whp and shooting for more.

A/R is the turbine housing "size" Think of .48 .63 .82 as Small, Meduim, Large. Not quite that simple but that's the basic feel.

The .48 is no good, too restrictive, the .63 is a decent mix between spool and hp that maxes out about 320-330whp, the .82 is the big bertha. 400whp.

Umm to get to those levels of horsepower (over 10-11psi) on pump gas you will need water injection. This is *NOT* standard on stage II. On race gas, well Jay Hassinger would have to fill you in on how much boost for level of octane without water or with water injection.

It costs an extra $500 for the ECU water injection circuit (from what I understand it's the NOS circuit). This fee is charged regardless of the $100 exisiting JWT ECU reprogram fee. The water injection hardware (available from Fmax) is around $500-600 last I checked with Scott. Oh yeah, over 400hp you'll need to run 4 bar fuel program, and according to Ben at JWT that is an additional $500. Again things may have changed since so many people are gettting 4 bar and water but I bet they have not.

So in summary roughly $1500 more for 400+ hp horsepower above the $4400 stage II kit price. YMMV.

That is why I shyed away from going this far at first. I can always upgrade, and 10lbs on pump gas making 240-250whp might be totally satisfying for a daily driven street car. I think traction is a problem that just gets worse on our FWD monsters. PLUS even Jay Hassinger has said, 'anything over 200whp is nothing to sneeze at' So many people say I want to make XXX amount of horsepower but do not realize how significant just double the stock hp level is...

I think that with my setup not including the nos I am between 170-195hp what do you all think? As far as number for hp goes I have big plans for my daily driver like I said I plan on making this red monster just a strip car. I see the light it is a little faint but it is getting closer.
